Sorry for the cross-posting over at the Rampant Games Forums, but this strikes me as a Big Deal.
Indie games have had investors (occasionally) in the past. But now, the indie developers ARE the investors. It's not an overnight thing - this has been long in coming - but it definitely feels like a milestone.

Independent Game Luminaries Announce Indie Game Fund
This is.... frankly.... awesome. IMO, this means indie games have come of age as an industry. It's maturing. It's a brave new world. Some will mourn this transition. I won't. This is what indie is supposed to be all about. We do our own thing, make our own rules, and find our own ways of funding the dream without going to the big, established publisher gatekeepers and saying, "Please, sir, may I have another?" and then signing away all of our rights for a single throw at the carnival.
Anyway - yeah, there will be new gatekeepers, you probably won't receive enough $$$ to transition to full-time, but this may be an opportunity folks here may want to explore when trying to figure out how in the heck you will make your dream RPG.... _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz
