Inspired by some comments by Matt Barton:

What are the most significant indie RPGs?

Let the arguing and throwing things begin. I've been sweating this for two days, positive that I've forgotten something major.... (And worried about not including games by friends....)

Man, how could you forget DarkDread's RPGs? I mean sure he didn't sell them but... they are classics. If there were no Dark Ethereal RPGs... this site would not exist.

Still, this is a damn good article.

DarkDread was obviously one of the most significant creators of QBasic RPGs back in the day, although I think the QBasic community was pretty small in comparison to the indie game development scene in general.
