It seems like we usually have a competition/jam every summer now, so I think it is time we start thinking about one again.
I suggest that this time, we do another 48-hour one, as the last one was week-long - I think it's really great with the short-and-sweet challenges, working like crazy for just a weekend :-) But as per usual, we should allow people to prepare their tech/engines beforehand if they like...
So let's hear suggestions on themes and dates for the compo. My theme suggestion for this time would be to make an RPG based on one of the generators on Seventh sanctum
For example, using the RPG Name Generator gives me names like these:
- Ender's Guardian
- Order: Gate of the Flying Mystic
- Quake of Grandia
- Saintly Phantom I
- Zidane's Time: Xeno Machine
And the Stories generator gives me stories like these:
- The story is about a friendly paladin who is in love with a cooperative witch-hunter. It starts in a city-state in a magical part of our universe. The story begins with a sport being played and ends with an education. An ancient prophecy plays an important role.
- This is a comedy. The story is about a confident elementalist searching for truth. It takes place in a government building. The story begins with the taking of a test, climaxes with a tragedy, and ends with the taking of a test.
- The story is about a naive circuit priestess who has a crush on an innocent barbarian. It starts in a tomb in a small town. The story begins with smuggling and ends with longing. Magic is fading in power, and that plays an important role in the story.
I'm thinking, surely there's a potential for getting some cool games done based on these things? :D

Sounds like a scenario writer's dream. Yeah I can just imagine those settings taking place. Very well written generator, I must say.

I dunno. For me, the fun of these competitions is in working around some sort of common mechanic or gameplay limitation and seeing how different people interpret it. The sound of a competition where everyone just has different, randomly generated stories doesn't have the same appeal for me.
