So the career egotists who create our favorite games (yeah right) sold the populace of Kickstarter games and the legions of people who are uncomfortable thinking for themselves obeyed.

How is it coming out?

I counted eight or nine (funded) zombie apocalypse board games. and four or five zombie-related MMOs. *shakes head* There was one game that passed itself off as a "code shooter" which promised to "bring out the potential in billions of would-be coders by letting them shoot Javascript".

I'm not making this up.

A few notable games:

  • Malevolence: Diablo in 3D, I guess.
  • Guns of Icarus: this game could have potential, but I'd say they'll skimp on the really awesome stuff.
  • Rival Threads: takes after Odin Sphere. Possibly good stuff.
  • Fist Puncher: have these people ever heard of River City Ransom?
  • The Light of the Darkness: seems too ambitious.
  • Boot Hill Heroes: Redneck RPG. Seems Earthbound-ish.

Several of the games appear to be funded with low targets. These games promise to make the game EVENTUALLY, saying that the more money they get the faster the work will be done. That seems like a bad deal to me.

A lot of the projects are works that would previously have been open source; in fact, I'm starting to wonder if crowd funding will replace donations as the customary compensation method for free software.

Some of these projects I'm surprised to see on here, particularly for low-budget retro games. The old gambit of making the game you like and "hoping" it sells has fallen out of favor, it seems. (although that could have something to do with the rise of promotional placement on download sites).

For $35 or more you will receive closed beta access to Hiro Fodder: A Blue Hope.

As you might expect, the (well thought out) original stuff is closer to the bottom. Several ideas seem really good, but have barely been funded.

I'm so sick of fucking zombie-themed games. It's like being in Japan during the Oni-rush where every fucking popular game had Oni in it. GAH.

My #1 source of frustration. It seems people will pay for hope, but not reality.
