Last night, I picked up a Microsoft Sidewinder at Staples for $19-something. Today, I wrote a VB wrapper for the API calls that work with joysticks and gamepads. Needless to say...this is a big step ahead for me, because now I can develop all these upcoming Windows titles with gamepad support...that includes the Windows versions of Neutopia III, Distant Promises, The Wrath Of Sona, Keikaina, Black Satin, and Redhead. As I've been barking out advice as of late, let me add another piece...if you don't yet have a gamepad...GET ONE! :) Adding gamepad support will enhance the quality of your game if done properly, and since most of us develop console-style RPGs anyways, which require very few buttons or keys, this is a prime idea :)

Btw...this was a USB controller, so it won't do much good in a pure DOS environment. Needless to say...I'm glad I'm running Windows 2000 or I'd be hosed :)

I love gamepads. I have two playstation-type controllers without analog sticks. I got them when I got into SNES emulation, now I use it for every game that supports it. Getting a gamepad will really increase gameplay and I highly recommend the Gravis Gamepad Pro.

I've got that very Gamepad.
I don't use it that much, though. I don't have that much games it could be used for.

Emulation, my man, emulation. Emulators are the best thing that happened to broke gamers. Take it from me... I have no money.
