Hey all. I've just put the last touches on the first alpha of the prototype (how many more qualifiers dare I add?) to an open-ended space RPG called "Beyond Infinity." BI is the "special" cousin of the proud line of Elite, Privateer, and Freelancer, but I think it has some charm. It's practically impossible to test a game like this alone, so I figured I'd let you guys at it.

Words of warning:

1) The game is essentially without graphics. It is a prototype for a version which will have (in the words of an old Sega ad) "bright, beautiful colors." If you can't deal with text-based games, don't even bother, I guess.

2) Because it is open-ended, it's quite possible that certain "options" are really not worth taking. Taking the fighter ship at the start, for example, is considerably harder than taking the merchant ship. And just because you can attack a system from day one doesn't mean you should.

3) There may be glitches. Please don't hesitate to tell them to me.

It ran fine on my system, I didn't play it for long, basically just went thru the menu's, but I didn't notice any glaring inconsistancy. Curse my short attention span, but this looks like a very promising game.

I like it, it's very much like Freelancer. I did die a few times, while traveling for a mission.

A story would be nice... having a purpose.

A story will definitely find its way in once the scenario editor is done; but basically I want to get the core gameplay working before I start working in a plot.
