Just been thinking, the games on RPGDX, don't really get reviewed enough (and yes, I'm certainly guilty of this myself)... so I was just wondering what a good way to get everyone to review a bit more would be. Perhaps, some sort of reward system, where after xx amount of reviews written (they'd have to be approved in some way, so people don't just write one liners, or unfair reviews) the person gets some special status, or rank, or something... perhaps something as simple as a bronze star (or coin, this is an RPG site, after all) in their profile, that appears alongside their posts... just as a way to recognize those that have helped out, by writing good reviews.

I think it's a good idea. But indeed, it would add more administrating either to detect misuse or for approval.
Maybe I could introduce a review request system, where I would show a short list of randomly chosen games that are asking to be reviewed on the front page. Does anybody have any thoughts on how this would turn out?

Can people review un-finished games? Like, ones that don't have an engine download? As in... Review the story?

That's up to the owner of the project, as he can either allow or disallow reviewing.

That could work out pretty well, yeah... and if you need someone to help out in checking reviews, I can do that. It wouldn't be a problem for me. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."

Thanks for the offer. I may actually try adding this thing to the long planned admin section of RPGDX that currently isn't that much usefull. I'll add some kind of 'verificated' variable to the table and unverify any new or edited review, so that one of the admins (you for example) can verify it again.
All this will have to wait until after the competition though.

Sounds good to me.
One thing though, I assume that people will still be able to read unverified reviews, correct? ...I think it would make sense, although, perhaps we shouldn't add them to the overall rating of a game unless it's been verified. Just a thought. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."

As they will probably only be unverified for a short time, I don't think that will be really an issue, so not really worth the extra complication.

Yeah, I've noticed some games have very few reviews, even if the few reviews they have are really high-scored... I think one of them was actually one of your games DarkDread, hehe. But yeah, the more reviews, the more balanced the total score. If someone indiviually doesn't enjoy a game and gives it like a 5... then that one review will probably turn away most of the potential audience, which you gotta admit, would REALLY suck after you spend hours and hours on a game.
So yeah, I think it's an incredible idea.

What would really help to encourage reviews, I think, would be to add a search function which will tell you which games have a) reviews enabled, b) a download link, and c) no, or at least very few, reviews.
Sometimes I do feel like being a good community-guy and writing a review, but I just don't feel like slogging through all the games to find one which fits the bill.

Nice suggestions Jihgfed. I was already thinking about extending the search system and I will certainly try to fit those in.
The past week I've been working together with Modanung and Georg on the compo game we didn't finish, the Blues Brothers RPG. Well, it still isn't finished but that at least explained why I was away for about 5 days. I hope I will have some time to get on with extending RPGDX with the stuff discussed in this thread.
