I'm working on some sprites for my rpg-dev.net contest entry (doesn't look like this one is going to get finished either) and has anyone else noticed that MSPaint in win2000 and winXP no longer allows the user to save images as transparent .gifs? Whats up with that? Why would MS choose to NOT support transparent gifs but normal gifs are okay? Or am I missing a dialogue box somewhere? Anyone with win98/winME want to email me the old version?

Heh, Reasons for using MSPaint:
- Its simple
- Its on my pc at work
Reasons for using .gifs:
- I can load them with java
- They have transparency
Oh well, guess I'll have to reinstall paintshop pro (and try to learn to use it, again.)

.png rocks. Its quick to load, and doesn't bugger up the image quality. After I found out how good they were, I just .png-ized my whole website. So did DarkDread, I think. _________________ Some may know me as MidnightDreamer... time for a namechange.

It should be announced "ping" but I just say p-n-g, as it reads. :-)
In any case, PNG is a nice format but as I explained earlier, it's not much smaller than zipped up TGAs. IIRC zipped PNGs could even become larger than the same files as TGA, zipped. Of course on the web, the choise is clear. But Allegro can load TGAs out of the box while for PNG I'd need an extra lib.

If you know some shortkeys in Photoshop, it's quicker to use than Paint.

I have swtiched to the GIMP and I find its so cool. Its free unlike photoshop / paint shop pro, its better, works on more systems, <10mb download, so much usefull features.
And yeah i like png's aswell, i always read it as p-n-g heh.

I think it means portable network graphic. And yeah, I keep saying 'pung' as well. Its hard to pronounce a word without vowels, heh.
PS. holy grail rocks. I just saw it the other day and its still funney. _________________ Some may know me as MidnightDreamer... time for a namechange.

You would be correct. As can be seen here the proper pronunciation is "ping". _________________ "...LeoDraco is a pompus git..." -- Mandrake
