Christmas is coming, everybody has a holiday (right?) so the perfect time to spent a few days coding, I think. I want to propose something different than a weekend coding frenzy. How about either giving everybody a week, or maybe, just putting the deadline on Christmas and allow starting now if you want. The second one has my preference.
Now except for the timeframe, we need some rules. The previous two competitions have been too unclear on that part, so here's three rules I'd like to propose this time:
- Any qualifying game must include a snowing effect
- Any qualifying game must have people leaving tracks in the snow
- It must be an RPG (duh)
Now before just announcing this competition, I'd like some feedback on the idea. Who would enter the contest and why or why not? Does it sound good? I want to have this decided this weekend. After that, if it's a gogo, please help spreading the news, because these things are always more fun with more participants!

I like the idea, but I don't think I'll participate. My main project takes precedence over contests.

Same thing for me, though this might be a good thing to test the new ARC engine out with... I dunno... _________________ Mark Hall

I think I might participate...I probably wouldn't finish in time, but it would be some extra motivation to get working on my engine. _________________ http://www.weeaboo.se

Ill be down for that if i can have an engine finished BEFORE the compo starts. Woudn't that be a crazy luxury. _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

Ok, so generally it's a nice idea, but generally people have little time. Well, as always, we will allow the engine to be finished before the competition starts. But then you'll have to finish it very soon, because I suggest having this compo commence as soon as December. Further more, what about allowing the use of (your own) existing graphics as a base for the game?
With that, and with one extra demand, namely that the game should feature some snow covered objects and at least one Christmas tree, I shall try to make up the announcement tomorrow.
About the name, what about Chione Challenge, RPGDX' Snowy Christmas Competition? Yeah, I've gone down to the Greek Mythology again, Chione being the Goddess of Snow. :-)

Great idea. I'm in. (That is, together with Bjorn and some others.) _________________ Hi, I'm a signature virus. Copy me to your sig-file to help me spread.

Sound nice. I'll make something if there's more than five other teams involved (I agree, compos are more fun with lots of people.)

How about a new years competition? I don't think a "Christmas competition" isn't fair to non-christians.

But then that wouldn't be fair to chinese people who have a different new year's day :)
I wonder if anyone's gonna make a Hannukah RPG for this compo? That could be an original idea. _________________ Mark Hall

Christmas of today has little to do with if you are christian or not (at least in The Netherlands), though maybe the way you celebrate it might be different. You did make me remove the Christmas tree demand and I extended the competition to the whole of December, not mentioning new years eve, just to make sure nobody is left out because of religeous feelings against it. :-)
Ok, the news is out. I'll post about it on RPG-Dev and Allegro.cc as well, and would really appreciate any help in getting this spread as far as possible!
Edit: Here's a little pic you can use to link to this competition discretely, just link to http://rpgdx.net/.

Hmmm... Chimaera is set in the winter... so maybe I can get a tech demo working suitably by then... probably not :) I'll just hack something together if I have the time. All the art has to be original, correct? It can be old, but it can't be from free art sites and stuff like that?
P.S. Ninkazu if you're going to make a *cough* political satire it usually helps to either misspell all the names or misspell none of them. ;)

While I'm not in favor of it myself, I guess using somebody else's art is allowed as soon as the other guy gave you explicit permission to use it and as long as you give the guy credit. I just hope the voters will be concious enough to take such a thing into account.
Chimaera is this other Greek mythology related to bad weather right? Being the doughter of Typhon, so I hear. Chione is the doughter of Boreas, God of Winter. Source: http://www.godchecker.com/ :-)
Moonlight Productions will be trying again to release it's Blues Brothers RPG, which was previous sheduled for Compo Nostos, then for two weeks after, but ended up being more work than expected and then other stuff kicked in. But now, we once again have a deadline to meet.

I don't see how it's misspelled. Is Chaney written a different way, because I don't think so...
