Well it's been a while since I've been here, but my RPG project is progressing very well if a bit slower than I would like. I'm still in the engine coding stage and I have not put any time into real game development yet. However as I'm developing my engine, I'm also developing the first full length game to run on it... a remake of Dragon Warrior. The remake will use the updated graphics set from DQ i and 11 reprise, and while it won't be a 100% clone of the original it will be fairly close. I'm rewriting some dialog and adding some graphic touches that weren't there, but my main consideration in doing this is that 90% of the graphics are already done for me and I can spend the majority of my time simply coding the engine. Once the engine and DW remake are complete I have plans for another game or two, but that's still in the future.
A screenshot of the current engine at work (with DW graphics)...
A small listing of enabled features so far:
proprietary mapping format and editor, map loading and scrolling, menu systems activated, animated tiles (8 frames each), auto system performance config, tile by tile scrolling(32x32px), lockable/unlockable doors, treasure chests, Active NPC's that walk around on map, useable game items, functioning stores and inns, display full screen or variable screen images(cut scenes), music on a per-map basis, varying degrees of darkness(caves/mines), loading/saving games.
And here is a list of features still waiting to be implemented before the engine will go into beta test period:
develop full character stat system, develop battle system, develop map damage applications(i.e. step on lava your hp goes down),minor bug fixes, finish mapping DW remake for release.
Most of the coding work is behind me, and I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel!

niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. I loved DW, and the graphics....they look damn good. From the SNES remakes? Heh, Janus, you've been around for awhile. Want your own personal Rank? _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-

Thanks for the comments guys! I have tentative plans to release a new tech demo when the engine gets to a more advanced state. I want to have almost the entire dragon warrior game mapped out and scripted before that though, which means adding a couple more features to the engine. The battle system is last on my todo list, and I'm still trying to decide whether or not to release a demo before it's working.
