Hey... I've allways liked competitions and stuff, but I've been unlucky enough to have been gone all month until now... How acceptable would it be for me to submit an unfinished demo as an entery (as in how many of ye will be doing the same), or is the deadline for entery over?

Demos are fine, and anything unfished in that sense. I'm assuming the voters know how to vote for what's been made instead of for what would've been made. :-)

Well, I for one probably won't get the game finished, because I didn't really start until the end of last week! Presumably if I was able to register two weeks into the compo, you should be able to too now.

(I was hoping to have a twenty minute demo showing off the beginning of the plot and the battle engine - and to be honest, I'd rather get a fun twenty minutes finished than a tedious five hours.)

BTW, I'm assuming that, as usual, everyone will want an extension? :) It always seems to happen, no matter how long we've got to code the game. That's fine by me - Another week or so could make a big difference to my game. What do you all think?

My feeling is that extensions are fine. It's not like this is a really formal, strict competition, and I'd rather see some updates and enhancements trickle in over that last week than to have everything stop dead on the cutoff date, especially if it would mean the difference between a playable and a nonplayable entry.

That said, we should probably at least try to get the game playable by the deadline, and characterize the extension as a time for cleanup, working out bugs, tweaking the gameplay or interface as suggested by players, adding that one last map that didn't get done in time, swapping out the odd placeholder graphic, etc.

For example, I'm hoping to complete my entry, but as it's a cross-platform game, and I don't have a Windows box at home, it's somewhat difficult for me to do thorough testing on the Windows side of things. I'm not so naive as to think that if it works on the Mac, it will work on Windows (even though Director is a cross-platform development tool), so I think I will have to rely on user reports to iron out problems in the final analysis. Having a week-long grace period to deal with those problems allows me to plan for using the whole duration of the compo, rather than having to set aside a week of testing which, if there are only a handful of minor problems, could otherwise have been used to enhance gameplay.

Ohoh... I'm actually going to be away the week after April, heh. I guess an extention would be possible, as I won't be there to check the entries by the end of this month anyway. I won't have time to use any of that time though, aaargh! I hope the rest of my team will be able to continue working, but I know at least our lazy head artist is going with me...

I think I'll sign up 3 days before it ends and pretend I'm entering into a 72HoV. That might kick my creativity up a notch from 'nonexistent' to 'reminiscent of real talent'.

Hrm...kinda makes me wish I had time to participate in this one...I've already had to drop out of two compos though due to time restrictions and new duties (taking over the editor's position at V Planet is going to be a huge detail). I'll try to catch the next one though. Good luck to all who compete in this one. :D
