Hey, what does everyone think of doing a RPG game GUI design compo?
We enter a mockup of our UI with Menus, stats screen, HUD, buttons and the like in context of a game, real or just planned, and judge based on implied usability and coolness factor.
Sound doable? _________________ We are on the outer reaches of someone else's universe.

I like the idea. This doesn't fit really into our competition system that depends on projects to be created though, so I suggest just doing this one on the forums by posting screenshots in a dedicated thread when the competition finishes.
I'd say we allow up to three mockups (or screenshots) per entry, as some people might not be able to show everything in one screenshot. I'll write more exact requirements, but I don't think we should have a theme for this one.
Wether we go along with the contest will depend on the popularity, so cry out your opinion, please! :-)

Bah, get Visual Basic or Tcl/k people. You don't need to show of GUI's if you can use either language.

Right, well I'm not going to bother arguing with you. I meant in-game GUI's- like console-style, etc. It's up to you to sign up. No one is forcing it on you. It doesn't look like the idea is flying anyway. _________________ We are on the outer reaches of someone else's universe.

Yeah, Visual Basic or Tcl/tk would be the last things I'd use for an RPG game GUI... the idea was to make a game interface mockup.
Anyway, nobody seems to really care about this sort of thing, so we'll pass on this competition idea. Hopefully something else will sparkle some interest later this summer. :-)

If I had the time to do any of these compos. I need to get more work done on my larger projects before I have fun. I could end up using my compo interface in the game, but that would ruin the game a bit, wouldn't you think? Meh, I could probably add some more features after the compo to keep it interesting.
Fun fun.

Laughing out loud. Who knows, we might have one after all. We now have 5 people that think it's interesting, let's say we'll do the competition with at least 7 interested people!

Sign me up as well. It's my favorite thing to do in games I can never finish.

Alright. Now we just need time, place and guidelines. What about the first week of July, right here at RPGDX? We'll put no restrictions on theme for now.

Are we going to allow interfaces designed before the compo, or are we going to at least require that they are somewhat original? I mean, all GUIs are somewhat derivative but some of us have really polished stuff we've been making for a while and some of us don't, so it might not be fair to allow stuff that's from our existing games or that's obviously taken forever...
