The timing of this post is probably not the greatest, concerning all the sexism debates going on, but please misunderstand me the right way - I don't view women as objects, I just like drawing beauty, OK?
I finally managed to get myself seated to work on a picture for more than 30 minutes, and this is what became of it. Not that bad, considering I hadn't even started to get the hang of body drawing before yesterday.
What do you think? What could be improved?
http://invis.free.anonymizer.com/http://www25.brinkster.com/zilvercomputing/first_time.jpg
Some things I noticed about the picture myself:
* The foot is so ugly it makes my want to puke
* Her left eye is a little bit off. Was too lazy to fix it
* There's something not quite right with the arms
* The hair could use some more work
BTW, The title of the image is "First Time" - I know it's bad and will probably make someone tell me how pathetic I am, but I thought it fit anyway. _________________ http://www.weeaboo.se

- ???
- I think it's sexist and you'd better not post any more revealing bikini pictures on here anymore unless they live in the desert!!!
Just kidding!!! XD
- I think it's an excellent "First time" picture. I noticed some things that could be corrected... and since I'm lazy and a picture is worth 1000 words.. ( eh, or so they say ), I drew one for you, and even jotted down some words...

- I hope it helps. Keep in mind that I am *REALLY* out of practice. =T
I also used a similar pose from a Wallpaper from Seraphim Call in my Christmas card for 2002. Maybe it will help some.

Thanks for taking the time! You're certainly right that "an image says more than a thousand words" - I think this is the single most educating reply I've ever gotten to a post. _________________ http://www.weeaboo.se

Hey hey. I have a tip.
I had a very hard time with proportion until I started going to the school I'm attending (Studio M Animation School). We learnt a system of proportion called the Hale figure. Which I will tell you about....
When visualizing proportion of the torso, think of two equal sized egg shapes that super impose into one another. If you need a visual reference, I can whip something up.
But the point that is key, is that the measurement of the upper torso (around the top of your shoulder blades)to the belly button and the belly button to lower torso (around the point where your pelvis ends) is equal distance. Of course there are small variations, but the distance is usually equal. (This also works with squares, if putting the human figure into perspective)
If you use the two egg method overtop your piece, you can see that the upper torso is strecthed.
There are a few other small problems, but your starting out like everyone has too and there will always be problems. It's best to keep on drawing and drawing until you get comfortable, then start worrying about small details and revisions. Very good for your first try. Very very good. My first drawings were uggggggggggly.
Another tip, I know everyone hates it at first, but don't hide hands. The more you draw hands now, the easier it will be later on. _________________ Never milk cows that have uni-brows.

I did a really quick makeover of the image, correcting some (but not even near all) of the things I weren't happy with. And I know I really should practice drawing hands. Have done some, though not nearly enough.
EDIT: It isn't really the first time I tried drawing full-body, just the first time after I actually looked into how it *should* be done. Knowing the "why" certainly help the "how" a lot. _________________ http://www.weeaboo.se
