I'm not giving up. Win1.0 was vaporware, it doesn't just mean products that never show up but also ones that are announced waay too early. Anyways the real vaporware issue is with Meldstar projects. Notice how they keep getting canned?

That's okay... I'm probably gonna can at least 3 projects... all of which are 50-75% complete... just, have no will to bother with them anymore. :/

heh, yeah...i know that feeling as well (underground alice....), i mean it's kind of sad if you put a lot of time and energy into that project and then just lose interest.

but meh, that's the way it is.

The nice thing is, i don't think i will ever lose interest in teh Changeling...there's just something to it, that entrances me. Although writing the design doc for it is starting to bore the crap out of me.

Thank goodness that's a myth.

Ok, I am going back to the topic that I started. No offense. :-)

I've been busy today with figuring out more about the merge:

- The user tables can be merged no problem, login on RPGDX can work equally nice with users from the phpbb_users table.

- Registration would be done on the forums and only there. When registration on RPGDX would still be possible it would have to fill in many default values from forum settings. I don't really see a problem in referring to the forum registration page.

- You'll still have to login twice as the session management of phpBB is rather complex and I don't like introducing it to the RPGDX pages (yet, at least).

- I'm still trying to figure out how to update all the projects/reviews tables to the new user IDs. It might be easiest to temporarily add another column to the tables in which I store whether a row is updated or not.

So without the login-once feature, is the merge still worthwhile? I can still think of the following advantages:

- Register once
- More of a 'whole' feeling, like Mandrake described
- It'll automatically enable username and password changing for RPGDX users, on the forum profile page.
- RPGDX can use any information entered in your profile, like when we create user pages on which we can show a short bio, the user's projects and stuff we can also show his picture. It could also show his latest forum posts (maybe).
- Visitors cannot create forum accounts with the same name as an RPGDX account that wasn't a forum account yet.
- phpBB passwords are stored encrypted, so unless someone (possible Mandrake or I) would introduce password intercepting, passwords are as secret as they can be. ;-)

Maybe later on I can still work on the login-once thing, but I think the above list will be more than enough reason to still do the merge.

So the merge is done. What's next? I still have to implement editing the news posts. Then I want to change game information stuff (add more fields, change how downloads and screenshots are added). We also still need a better moderator system.

But this stuff could take a while, first there's two preliminairy exams and two reports to make. Then there's vacation. Until after that, I think I'll only be fixing reported bugs (none at the moment). We'll see.

I'd say set up the Bugzilla bug tracking system, but that's written in Perl, not PHP. :P
