True enough... it's a tricky game to play and really I think Zelda Classic just got lucky. Meh. _________________ RPG-Dev.net

Quote: | doubt theyd be interested in you remaking the game. Whenever people send in emails asking for approval of a remake they tend to get shut down. See Peroxide's "Ultima Reborn" project. They have an engine comparable to Morrowind's and were told to discontinue. So now they're using their engine for an original game called Era.

Funny thing... in an interview with an EA rep regarding Ultima Reborn, the rep expressed concern that Peroxide had not attempted to contact EA regarding the project; rather asinine I'd have to say. That's the equivalent of waiting for your neighbor to come visit just so you can politely inform him that you'll shoot his dog if it craps in your yard :)

I can't wait to see what Era turns out like.

Offering some practical advice on your endeavours... it would seem to me that doing a straight port would actually work against you.
To me, looking at the situation from the perspective of a potential contributor, it would be *much* more impressive to see you take the existing game graphics and create your own unique game -- thereby displaying some knowledge and skill in actual game design. Doing a port exercises none of that , and only shows people that you are at least a moderately skilled coder who can study and replicate the work of others.

sirocco: good point... i think that making a game that has all the gameplay of som that i think really made it great, as well as similar style of environments but telling a unique story would actually be much better than doing a straight rip

I split away to a different thread the ones about the debacle mainly between Rooter and Mandrake. I hope it can end in piece there.
Thanks to all who chose to ignore it, and for posting seperate posts concerning the on and off topic. The split was rather straightforward except for the few posts where it started.
Back to the on topic. I think I already stated I'm in favor of original work as well.
