And how many of those near 500 actually post? I would be surprised if even 25 percent were active.

You are right as shown by the latest statistics:

Number of members: 497
Number of active members (past week): 42 (8%)
Member with highest post count: Bjørn (908 posts)

Still, 42 active members a week (people logging in) does indicate quite some activity. It also shows how many "dead" members we have, but they aren't any harm. :-)

As can be seen in the memberlist, only a very small percentage of new users is actually ever posting a message. You can see this when you sort on Joined Date, Descending.

We should do something to welcome the new users in, promise them we won't bite or anything :)

You're always going to have a certain percentage of dead members. It's providence. :D

As the number of members went up quickly towards 508 users, so did the amount of "dead" members. 15 of the new guys were dead from the start, had a numbered username, an invalid email address and their URL set to some Russian site.

So I'm thinking they developed some crawler that'll add users to phpBB forums or something. The users will show up in the new users field, even if they haven't confirmed their membership. If this kind of annoyance holds on, I'll be adding visual confirmation (copying a random code) to the registration process.

Counter is now back at 493. :-)

Thanks for pointing that out. Actually, the newest three members were of the same kind again, and I have deleted them. I already removed the url field from the registration form, and am blocking people that still try to use it. Apparently now they figured out how to register, confirm the registration, log in, and edit the url field, or something. I'll try adding a hidden variable next, then start blocking Hotmail emails maybe, etc ...

I'm not certain that's such a good idea - I've got a hotmail address after all :)

Hey, I'm not a dead user... I just don't post much, heh.

So you can count me in the 'sorta, kinda, still, semi-active' user list. :p
