The GIMP has an acquire screen option in its File menu, you can see I have the GIMP open, that is what I used. I create a thumbnail using "convert -resize 200 screenshot.png thumb.png", which is part of ImageMagick.

There's also ksnapshot for KDE and GNOME includes a screenshot taking item in the action menu. Finally there's always:

import -window root screenshot.png

do you talk in the 3rd person alot?

my desktop isnt worth posting, its a black flat desktop with icons filling it. when i get too many, i make a folder on the desktop and move them in there to start again.
