I'm sorry if anybody is offended by the missing threads exploreRPG started, but I'm sure more were offended by their presense.
In all three, exploreRPG started to make a point about an encouraging comment he made which I deleted. This was a unfortunate misunderstanding, for which he has accepted my apology. I told him to repost it, and he didn't. I don't think he had any right to take that issue in public, especially not in some kind of scewed proof of lacking maturity.
The threads are removed for now. It would be cool if we could prevent these things from happening. Maybe some of you would like to share their opinion on the matter (the whole flaming thing), I am interested.

Can we have them back but locked?
I don't think there is a way to stop them, nor do I think it would be right to try. That is, until they get to a certain point. Then I vote to lock them. That effectively stops them, and it leaves the evidence to other to judge as well. _________________ We are on the outer reaches of someone else's universe.

This seems to happen whenever someone feels that they have something at stake personally in a thread. Since exploreRPG is trying to sell his product, I can understand how he'd get involved in an argument about the quality of it. It's unfortunate, though.

But, taking negative and positive reactions is something you have to deal with when you post your work. Some people isnt very good at handling that. _________________

I found the whole thing amusing, mostly because exploreRPG's anger seemed (mostly) directed at the "maturity" here, all the while he goes off on tantraums about things. I liked the bit at the end of the Woody Glen thread when he started debasing graphics which, to my eyes, look better.
Heh: this post may be removed if it seems too "immature" or inappropriate _________________ "...LeoDraco is a pompus git..." -- Mandrake

I dont think his gfx are that bad. It was only the same stuff over and over in all the shots. Besides I dont think it's something wrong with the maturity on the board. ERPG's assault on bjorn was on the other hand immature. _________________

I think this is yet another case of escalation of overreactions. Although some of the posters tried to keep there heads for a while, with each reply it ended up getting more and more out of hand. In terms of who was to blame I think its clear that ERPG overeacted the most quickly of anyone in that thread.
However I think the basic problem came down to the reason for posting. Most people post screenshots, so others offer opinions about what will improve it. However you'll notice that ERPG never asked for any feedback or comments, maybe he just wanted to show others about what he had done. Of course this is all speculation, but since he didn't ask for our opinions maybe he didn't want our opinions.
To avoid future misunderstandings in the Screenshot/Projects forum, perhaps there should be a sticky thread with some simple rules. For example maybe there could be a [review] tag or [art] tag or something in the subject for screenshot threads where comments and critics on the art or style or design is wanted. Otherwise people should read the post first and if no questions are asked, don't reply.

If you don't want feedback on your screenshots shoudn't you post them on the project page and not the forum? _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

I guess I ought to comment on this...
exploreRPG stated that he did not want to discuss the design of his engine in one of the early posts.
I, and a few others, missed this statement and commented anyways, which he obviously felt like an attack (well there was some pretty inconstructive comments like "it's (his scripting language) also fucking ugly"), but such comments ought to be ignored, or maybe tag along a comment about immaturity here if you care.
In any case, a forum is for discussion, and I don't see much point in using it for advertising your products. Especially not if stating that nobody in here are customers... but who cares,
I'm kinda tired of this whole matter, and I'm glad i had already left the discussion before it was locked.
I see no reason to make up new rules based on this. Minor fights are part of a healthy relationsh... community. Sure thing.

well at first I was thinking the samething myself, but then I reread the forum blurb:
Quote: | This is the place to post about your project updates, and discuss existing projects. This is also the place to show screenshots and the like. |
Reading that I could see the point of view that it would be okay to post a topic with my lastest project updates and not invite artistic review.
I mean sure... the moment you post to a forum you are inviting feedback of some kind, but maybe there needs to be something in place where its more clear to some people about what that feedback will entail. So I think either it needs to be made clear in the blurb or a sticky thread that forum is for comments and feedback on projects/screenshots. Or there needs to be way that people can tag threads for review.

This seems logical. Just post your screenies, write in a new blurb, and hit the 'update' button, or whatever :)
Yeah.

That is correct. If you want to post new screenies without getting a response, post it in your project thread.
I actually feel very mature now when you compare what happened to erpg in that thread and what happened to me here->

that's also why I created Gia....
But I think people should criticise here. We want to keep our games on a level professionalism that will only happen if we puch each other and except nothing less than great. _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-
