All the code I write is portable... I can put any of it on a disk and carry it with me. :)

For the sake of technical accuracy, I think I should point out that BlitzMax does in fact have classes with inheritance and polymorphism, and that at least one finished commercial game has been written in Blitz.

That's cool, I didn't even know they had a new product out.

Not really... Freebasic pwns them all. :)

Just a note, A lib has just been released that enables qb's gfx primitives. So now to use gfx all you have to do is use screen 13 or 12 or whatever (or use screenex (xsize of window, ysize of window) to make your own screen size, 32 bit) and putting a pixel is as easy as pset x,y,c. plus i can get 800,000 pixels a sec compared to qb's 10,000 compiled and optimized. If that ain't good then i don't know what is. :)

Warning, I don't believe in pwnage, nevar. :-)

So really, putting a pixel is as easy as pset x, y, c... I fail to see how that is different from anyplace else except for the semantics that more generally are putpixel(bitmap,x,y,c). In fact you generally don't want to draw your pixels directly to the screen.

Btw, 800.000 pixels a sec? You do understand you'd only be able to push 1 fps on a 1024x768 screen, right? Of course in general you don't putpixel your screen full, but still it is not fast except when compared with crawling QB speeds.

eh, the lib is just an sdl wrapper, so it'll never be as fast as sdl itself.

Why,why,why???

You make QB sound as it's dead, but you'll be gone, old and dying... before QB is!

Anyways, QB has all the power I need to make the kind of games I desire. I can make GBA quality type games using only QB4.5, not even having to use ASM, or other help from other languages. Now, I'd say I'm an experienced QB programmer,
and I can do these things because I know many manipulation techniques, optimization, and tricks that help keep my programs
balanced, both in efficiency, speed, etc...
(To sum it up, ME+PC+QB= professional feeling, looking, and playing games!!!)

Now commenting on the,'crawling QB speeds'...

My QBRPG I just started last month is going well, it's basically going to be a console type RPG, but will have a mouse and Keyboard controlled game-play, and a mouse/KB controlled GUI!
The title of this RPG is called, Awakened.
Some facts to ponder...
Using screen 13, pureQB4.5 (compiled),
I get around 200 FPS, and that's with only a PII, 300 Mhz. PC,
under WIN98. Also, I'm blitting about 8 levels of GFX, the first level (ground level) is a full screen blit, and then the other levels are transparent, translucent, etc... So, I'd say atleast 200,000 pixels a frame. Do the math my friends...
200,000 X 200 = 40,000,000 pixels per second!
Still not very fast for these days, but plenty fast for what I need to do!

Just thought I'd mention some of the positive sides of QB :)

That's huge, beefy, (SUBMISSION wrestling dude), to you!!!

(J/K :)

I'm doing alright. What about you?
I've seen you around a forum here and there, glad to see you are still active in game developing. I see you're learning so many things, even C/C++ !!! WOW 8~O>

And concerning Kyper...

The project we, me, was working on... (QBRPG)Dark Fantasy,
will never become a reality. (I was always ready to get this project under way, but Kyper would never finish his part of the project. He wanted to do the scripting, and was writing the actual story, but never gave me anything to work with.
(If only I had the full story, and some game playing ideas from him, then a QBRPG Dark Fantasy could be made... but...???)
So, now I've decided to just write, code, etc... my own QBRPG, (Awakened is what I'll name it :)

Anyways, hope to talk to ya again soon, Ninkazu!

Cya,

Nemesis

Sure if you can find satisfaction in getting something good out of QB, and if this helps you making great games, then I have little to argue about except maybe that I probably won't be able to play it as it's meant to be.
