She posts her work at DeviantArt. She's very enthusiastic, and she's pouring most of her free time into getting as good as she can.

She says that she would like to work on a game sometime. What do you guys think?

Well, looks like mostly photographs, but the drawn and 3D art is nice and atmospheric, and certainly has a strong genre feel that would be useful for lending some character to an RPG. I suspect with some effort, she could produce some compelling game art.
However, there's a big difference between game art and the stuff she's put up on deviantart so far. It's one thing to paint a great dramatic shot, but it's another thing to have to draw that same person from eight different directions with 32 frames of walking, running, falling, etc. each.
That's not to say she can't do it, of course, but you might want to speak frankly with her about how much work doing the graphics for a game can be, and how the confines of the game engine may limit her creative options.
You know how to make games - have her try her hand at some sprites / models and advise her on how to build them so that they are usable in a game setting. That will prepare her better for signing on to an actual game project. _________________ Visit the Sacraments web site to play the game and read articles about its development.

Hi, I'm with nephilim. I'm having trouble figuring out why I would ask her to join a development effort. Pictures of oneself(?) and SO(?) aren't really compelling portfolio pieces, and the 3D is... polygons and all, but it's not screaming "brilliant composition" at me. Yeah. I went through a "3D is cool" phase when I was younger, too. I still like it, but I know when to use it, and when another media would be a better choice.
Now I can sit back and wait for a picture of a bare-breasted woman with a sword screaming "brilliant composition" at me.

She's got talent, but the 3D stuff does nothing for me. Just a (useless) personal note. I'd much rather have a good pixel artist on my side than anything else.

I like the 3D images, but the coolest I thought was her avatar:
I think it's pretty funny. Maybe this could make it into a pretty funny game. Even though with only this graphic it could hardly become much else than a whack-a-mole variant. :-)
Btw about all the frame rendering and stuff. She wouldn't necessarily need to worry about this when another member of the team would do this. When she's good at making characters and 3D objects, she could stick to that and have others deal with animation or creating game-ready sprites.

My two cents.
Her art, as far as 3D goes, is not bad. But I'd have to agree when I say a pixel artist is far better than having a 3D artist. Things just don't necessarily look right in 3D. The technology and the programming is here to stay, but that doesn't mean that you can't have really enjoyable 2D games. There has to be some 2D games even if just for the sake of those who are new to games who can't get the dang analog controller to walk them in the right direction... not that I have had much problems with 3D in that respect, but I can't think of how many times I've died because of something my "character" would have seen that I didn't, because of a camera angle.
So... if she doesn't mind having her beautiful 3D art crammed down into little 32x32 tiles (or a variant), then she could well have more than sufficent skills for the next Diablo game, or even a really neat strategy game. Other than that, her skills are generally useless for the majority of the indie RPG development community, because most of us still use pixel art. Not all of us, but of the projects I've seen thus far...
And I'm okay with that. I like pixel art. I still dust off Final Fantasy III and play it. Of course, technically, I still have yet to see the ending, but that's a different story for another thread.

You'd have to ask her. I know that she is capable of generating an image in her head and transcribing it to a canvas, she's very good at that. The image bears a resemblance to her, so I think that it's most likely all her own work. Certainly the deviantID render is. She... mmm... talks to people and and plays games and works somewhere and yeah, does art with all of her free time. I don't think she even plays games anymore except with other people. I may be wrong though, I haven't actually seen her in a year.

Oh, when you said she was your friend i assumed she was one of those friends that talk to you and hence you could ask her the question. If she's one of those friends that avoid you and such, don't worry about it. _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

That 3D stuff is almost definitely Poser, which lowers the impressiveness of it dramatically... especially since most of it isn't wearing clothes or anything else distinctive that you couldn't buy for $5 on Renderosity.

In case you didn't notice dumbass, that deviantID looks a LOT like her, and so does the model with the boobies. She just feels very comfortable about expressing herself that way. I don't care if she uses prebuilt models or not, because I've seen her draw a beautiful unicorn with a blunt crayon, and not a line out of place. Really, to see her draw is something else that is beyond my talent, and yours. And that goes for you, too Janus.
