but how to answer this problem? Who is at fault here? Is it Janus and Adam? Or is it LGB? If you think the answer is obv, please, read over all of the conversations before making a choice, and then look to see exactly who is contributing to the noise, and who is contributing towards the signal. _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-

It doesn't matter who is at fault. When a thread gets off-topic or devolves into childish personal attacks, lock it.
If you try to engage in judgement calls over who is to blame, and you start getting into histories and he-said-she-saids, it becomes pointless. Just let the litmus test be whether it's productive conversation about RPG development. When a thread stops being such, lock it down. _________________ Visit the Sacraments web site to play the game and read articles about its development.

Warning: personal opinion ahead!
I came to RPGDX after checking a few RPG dev sites. It seemed to be one of the better places. I'm a bit disappointed, though. There are only about five serious contributors here, and I almost never got a discussion going without day-long breaks.
The only one was a debate between Mandrake and me, about the use of gods and mystical creatures. And this surely doesn't count as serious contribution, rather 'noise'.
Somehow strange, I consider one of my most intersting discussions hre the one that I had with ExploreRPG, who somewhat later was banned or left on his own behalf after a flamewar with the moderators ...
I'm still here. I feel a bit like an outsider, because of my different understanding of 'RPG'. I sometimes feel ignored. (Being ignored is the thing I hate most of all. Rather I like to be flamed than to be ignored. If I'm flamed I at least know, someone cares about my actions.) I'm not here because I particularly like this place. I'm here because I couldn't find a better place yet.
Sorry for the harsh words. I know the timezone differences, together with only a few people contributing makes it impossibile to spawn a discussion without post-message-today-get-answer-after-sleeping, but I'd surely prefer a more fluent conversation.

I'd like to pretend that i'm actually working on a RPG instead of talking about it. _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

On one hand you're right. But I don't think IRC is the right thing for me. It's too fast paced. I usually need a while to think about a message and write an answer. Often I want to do some research befoer I answer to make sure the things I write are at least somehwat sensible.
A forum is my favorite media.
Finally, after wasting too much of my life on IRC in the mid-ninetieth of last century I've sworn never to use IRC again. Without a few exceptions - someone invited me to a dedicated discussion and we had no other media - I never broke that.

Sorry, but for the past year or so I've just been too busy to actually participate in conversations around here -- discounting the lack of truly inspiring topics. I'm sure things will turn around eventually.

I can vanish from the net any day if there is a change in real life. There is no stability in onlineship.
What I've bee saying was just in regard to the short timespan that I'm watching this forum regularly, which started September 2004.

Hmm, well, I appreciate your input- I don't ignore you. I actually welcome your different opinions on the subject as a breath of fresh air- something new and interesting.
Hmm. Maybe RPGDX is just sleeping. So far, I just realised, it's lasted longer than most of the communities I've been apart of (only one that lasted longer so far is allegro.cc), so I think that's a plus. _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-

I hope so too. The guys over at "rpgsource" try to (re)activate their community, and "rpg-dev" is still running. Maybe it's too much sites for too few people.
The 'ignored' probably comes from my expectations. Having one two, three people responding is too little for my ego. And I have some messages out there with 0 responses (= me feeling like having missed the topic, the interests of this community => outsider). Nevertheless thanks to Björn, Mandrake and Nephilim for your support and input! Also to Rainer Dyke, if he shows up here.
What about the game plot contest? You didn't even tell if my contribution will be accepted (I assume it's a borderline case), and the deadline is over since about 3 days. I also would like to get some feedback on it, particularly now that the contest is over and we don't need to be afraid that feedback will influence other contributors.
I don't mind if you tell me that my contribution missed the point and will be rejected, or that it can't be accepted for formal reasons. But I mind not getting a feedback message, particularly if it was meant to be a competition.

heh, you won the plot compo by default, since no one else entered. But I will try and think up some criticism on it, however. _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-

Heh, RPGDX sleeping... I have a feeling this is said just after it has woken up. I remember for a while almost nothing was posted here, like a few weeks ago. Now each time I come here (which is mostly once a day), there seem to be plenty of messages to read.
Other than that, even though topics may run out (which I doubt), I think this place will keep active as long as there are people actually working on independent RPGs.

That's very true. I think it's waking up- but it's still has sleep in it's eyes. It's still needing to stretch a bit and have some breakfast before getting real interesting. _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-
