Personal pet peeve of mine to have to play a religious character. (Or pray for health. Or see religious symbols of Earth in a fictional world. Etc.) But thats just me I guess.

Don't name a character Sith. Heh. Mix it with another word/random letters at least.

10 points for having a female lead though. And for having northern lands.

Locrian: yeah I guess the name could use a change... I'll start thinking about that. As for religion, lets just say its not going to be a standard Earth religion and its going to have an effect on the plot.

Sirocco: This is the rebirth of the Anthem of Dread project. I had it on hold for sometime. However events that occured a few weeks ago has seen some of the old team getting back together. As an engine rewrite was already required I thought it would be fun to learn a new API while we were at it.

Congrats on getting the team back together. Have you ever thought of bringing in a writer to create something new and unique? It's a very decent plot, but very much the same old cliche's of classical fantasy.

hrmmm... well I'm not a bit fan of huge group projects, as they tend to fluff around and not get anything done. 2-3 person teams have been the most effective in my past experence.

I'm mildly offended that you consider the story cliche fantasy, when it was designed as a cliched science fiction story. ;) Seriously though, which part do you consider cliche, or is it just the whole thing?

Oh, pay no attention to Mandrake: (I'm sure) if he hasn't written it, it's cliche to him.

I'm inclined to say that all plots are cliched, and it's only the execution of the plot that sets different stories apart. However, it is true that rpgs have traditionally only explored a small subset of all possible plots, themes, and settings. The given story does seem to fit into that subset, although it's hard to tell without seeing the whole story.

In my experience, it all depends on the ability of one person to lead a group, rather than a group itself to stay cohesive. But that's just from experience.

For a fantasy RPG only small elements are cliche....(big evil must be stopped, questioning of faith by a faithfull preist/priestess), but in the larger sense of fantasy literature at large, it's mostly all cliche.

Nope. Snow Crash isn't cliche. Nor is Ubik. Or Through a Scanner Darkly. Or American Gods. Or Neverwhere. Or tons of other novels I can start listing off of the top of my head,

Not even close to being true. I'm reading an excellent anthology of short stories right now called Borderlands 5, and in it not on single story so far has succombed to being a cliche horror story.
