Om nom nom, how do we know when a game project needs a musician here? What forum would that be under? I'm itching to make a soundtrack, because without purpose, my music usually turns out random and useless like Channeling. But, yeah. I'm loving XMark's guitar skills and I'm making all kinds of AWESOME but useless stuff now. I'm also up for doing projects for ANYone as long as I get something in return or publicity or something. BUTTSEX! OVER.
By the way, I'm Ben. Kichiro is some character I made for a story.

Aminnymum, no one's replying to this thread so I'll reply to myself!! Bwahaha. I'm also making lyrical songs in both English and Japanese, but I was curious (mostly with Xmark) if anyone knew where I could get a cheap concert microphone (so the sound doesn't buzz like pc mics do if you're too loud) and that it must be able to plug into a computer. I have two but if you're too quiet, and turn the volume up to compensate, it sounds like you're far away from the song, losing the quality of your voice, and if you're too loud, obviously it "clips" or goes past the peak levels of the recording program thus making a terrible buzz within the sound. Usually it puts a sort of high pitched whoOOOOo noise behind your voice even if you don'tat all intend to do so.
Anyway, past all the psychobabble, I need a good concert microphone that can plug into the computer. My Dell 3000 is a USB interface. HELP, thanks.

Sorry, I don't think I can help much with the microphone thing. What I use is a Shure SM57 which is a fairy high-quality dynamic microphone for around $100. However, you can't just plug it into a computer because it uses an XLR cable, and you really need a preamp to get the most out of your signal. (I'm running it through my M-Box) _________________ Mark Hall

Well, I use a Sony F-V420, cost about 60 bucks and is actually an extremely decent mic. Just plugs straight into the mic port, though the cable detaches at the base of the microphone itself, so you can buy different cables for it... (ie. usb, some kind of wireless setup, etc)

Hmmm. I was wanting to get a better guitar recording setup soonish as well. Now I see that it isn't cheap. Turds. Xmark any particular reason you went with mic and audio interface route rather than just buying a POD type doohicky? I've always just plugged my amp into the line-in on the computer. I swear it sounded ok on my old computer, but now when I try it it sounds like shit. Dunno if I should mic or POD.

If you have a good mic, it's infinitely better to mic your amp, because direct-lining always ends up in a really "fuzzy" sound. Though if you are direct-lining, I've heard that the POD is the best way to go. _________________ Mark Hall

I have been moving a lot, but I did manage to record some stuff with an old friend that plays drums and sings. We used a cheap guitar plugged into a zoom 505a pedal and then plugged into the line in on his computer. We also used Cool edit pro as our recording software. The guitar parts are doubled to give it depth. The vocals were mic'd with a shure SM58 and then preamped to the line in, but no other effects were added until after they were recorded. This is not a final version for us, but it might give you some ideas on recording with your PC. I've used several cheap multi effects processors and they can work ok for your vocals if you have a mic with a 1/4" phone jack. There is a lot of stuff out there that is much better, but I'm not sure if any of it is as affordable.
