Er, why? That is: why did you go to whatever pains you took to program this, and why should we be interested in it? I've got a couple of GNU text editors that I enjoy using, so what features does "EDiT" offer that would entice me to switch? _________________ "...LeoDraco is a pompus git..." -- Mandrake

It's obviously just a programming execise. Don't be such a wanker. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

There are better utilizations of time, both for him and for me. I don't want to waste my time downloading a piece of software I have no intention to use, especially with the way he has presented it. _________________ "...LeoDraco is a pompus git..." -- Mandrake

What were you expecting? Like he said, this is his first Linux app. Everyone has to start somewhere.
I'm sure it took more time to make these two posts than it did to download EdiT and try it out. And if your time is so valuable anyway, maybe you shouldn't waste so much of it writing 17K worth of text in programming lessons for someone who clearly isn't reading your posts. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Well, see, I'm currently on a dial-up connection, which would increase the download time of either of his RPMs by a whole bunch. He is using SuSE, so I would have to download the SRPM. Then, as the computer I'm currently accessing the web from is not mine, I would have to spend five to ten minutes to burn the RPM to a CD, so that I could then go and put it on my computer. Then, I would have to take the time to compile --- and possibly debug --- the source files. All of this prior to actually testing the project. So no: it took a lot less time to make my posts than it would to download and try it out.

I never said that my time is valuable; I said that there were better things to do with it. I enjoy berating Galbalan for his follies. Even given the history of his continued disregard of my posts, I still hold hope that one day, Galbalan might see the light.
That, and I like to just read things that I have written. _________________ "...LeoDraco is a pompus git..." -- Mandrake

Again, what were you expecting?
And what do you expect? That DeveloperX writes a little disclaimer to warn people that it may not be the next OpenOffice?

Well, that certainly explains a lot. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

If I had Linux I would give it a try, but I havn't so I can't.
And seeing you have had no feedback (apart from an argument with some Richard Cranium) I will just say:
I'm sure it's very good for your first Linux GUI App.
Mousie.

Features:
can load, edit and save ascii text files
resizable window
Screenshots:
a window with a menu, and a text-editing-box ;)
Requirements: (that I know of)
GamBas package
I never said it was to be anything WORTHWHILE, its just my FIRST graphical program on linux.
It was a learning experience for me, and I just felt like sharing it.
Anyway, you guys can stop wasting time posting here, since its obvious noone here has actually tried it out, and either doesn't have linux or bitches about trying it. so screw it. _________________ Principal Software Architect

Why not when you make a test program like this, come up with just one really unique feature that no one has thought of before (or has thought to implement) and make it a part of your program?

In in effort to not be as much as an asshole as I was earlier, I grabbed the source version and ran it on my computer. I got nothing. Of course, that might be because I'm pretty sure I don't have gambas installed. _________________ "...LeoDraco is a pompus git..." -- Mandrake

dude....I didn't KNOW the language, I didn't know the software, I don't fully understand the platform.
I didn't expect to get anything from this, only to know if the program worked on other computers other than my own.
Anyway, once the Gambas package is installed, my program has run on SuSE (obviously), Redhat, Debian, Gentoo, and Fedora Core according to a good friend that I met whilst on a freenode IRC server. :D
Thanks anyway, and I guess this topic is now at a close, unless anyone has anything important to say.
Peace. _________________ Principal Software Architect

Well what I mean is, I can download it and try it, but would you rather I spend time downloading it and trying it, or using that time instead to work on Worldyne? :) Installing a unique feature, however tiny, might give me an idea with which to solve Worldyne's structural issues....

no offense to you my friend, but you should start looking at better crafted javascript code, because as it stands, wd source is an unmaintainable mess of unoptimized obfuscation & repetitiveness.
I have found it a major headache optimizing your functions, due to your severe lack of structure-robustness. :\
I'm not against your efforts, I just think its high-time you take a deeper look into your flawed code. I figure if theres anyone around here that you will listen to, it will be me, your good friend, and one that wouldn't simply shunt aside your ideas. I have supported you in this whole thing, even doubting its usefulness at times, I have seen that it is indeed useful, and powerful. However, there are many places in the code that can use massive amounts of optimization, which will decrease the execution time by at least a few seconds.
a decrease of a single second of execution time is worth its weight in gold when dealing with games.
a single second could mean the difference between the bargain bin, and the retail "hot picks" shelf. Remember that.
You are worrying too much about conforming to the DOM, while in reality you have created many holes and weakpoints in your structure.
You need to take what you have, and sit down and rebuild the system, making it stronger, more robust, faster, and less obfuscated.
a.b.c.d.e.f.g.h() is not a good way to access methods.
a() is MUCH better.
of course, you cannot always have a() but, you shouldn't ever have to
use a.b.c.d.e.f.g.h() while running in ANY loops. that is major memory waste, and slows your code to a crawl.
Thats my $0.02 for tonight.
Goodnight Tony. _________________ Principal Software Architect
