Looking good, I can't wait to see other areas of the game.
The text should probably read "You attack..." instead of "You attacks..."

I liked the original. I think I'll like this one, too.

You should do that if you want to get yourself some oldtime Ragnarok action... well, I believe we where named GameBoxEntertainment at that time being. The original was made for a contest on the DarkBoard that I 'won'. Meaning; I was the only one finishing.

If you like the original, you'll probably going to like this one, I'm trying to make it better in every possible way.
Currently I'm struggling with an outdoor tileset. A garden in covered in moonlight. Not easy to make it look good. _________________

Was it? I only remember that one contest for the darkboard, where there were 5 or so broken entries. And the winner was never announced for that I think.
Anyway, the screenshots look neat. Will rellib have any worries on 2k? I'd quite like to play it sometime.
Edit: Actually, Sophy 1 is a lot of fun :). I'm stuck though, where do you go after you defeat that huge slime monster? The basement door is still closed, and nowhere else seems to be opening up either. _________________ Previous nicks: MidnightDreamer, The_Anarchist, Shroomasta.

I think it works well with and windows. Can't swear on it but I think so.
Hmm...I cant remember what to do after the slime. How embarrasing :/. Bloody shameful. And I cant play it through myself as Windows XP doesnt like directQB very well. But I dont think its to hard to find the key. Look for anything that looks odd. Helpful, eh? I'm very sorry and I am ashamed and blushing. _________________

Hm, converting The tales of Sophy II to freebasic, then do a little bit of thinking for awhile then go back to Quickbasic version of SophyII. That is what I have done. _________________

I'm hearing a lot of people liking QB more than FB. Most of the diehard QB coders, actually. Personally, I've not yet done anything with FB, simply because I'm wary that any commitment to it won't bear fruit. Looking at what has happened to QB, and seeing the uncertainty surrounding most of the computer industries nowadays (what with the transistor "singularity" problem, and MS' troubles) I feel quite frankly more compelled than ever to devote most of my efforts to the browser: PHP and JS. These two technologies seem to have enough consensus and support that I can at least count on them lasting well into this century. Through my lifetime, at least.
BASIC seems to have... an uncertain future at the moment. Seeing so many people abandon C for C++ isn't encouraging, either. Languages that evolve... seem to me weak and temporary.

Yes, people are leaving a 30something year old language in favor off a 20year old one better put your eggs in the language basket that has a history that's 10years old where the newest version that completly changed the object model amongst other things is just over 1 year old (that's for PHP).
Sometimes your reasoning is a bit silly. _________________ If there's life after death there is no death, if there's no death we never live. | ENTP

In an age of emulation, QB's compatablity is only going to grow with each passing year. Using a dos or x86 emulator, I can run a lot of old dos games that just won't go under XP. Ironically you might have more compatablity with a dos app than a windows one, as many dos apps are easier to emulate under linux and other OSes.
So reguardless of how stuff changes or what becomes popular, you can be sure that games designed for old systems will never die.

The one reason I ditched FB (might reconsinder) this time is that it's well, to fast. I'm using a somewhat modified daRKlib tileengine as a core. With QB I used Rellibs function relwait to slow it down. With Freebasic I have tried to use basically everything at hand. Yes have slowed it down but the screen is drawn rather wavy. a slight under the ocean feeling. If there is any freebasic junkies out there that might want to help out some, your welcome to. I rather want to use freebasic as it is more compeling to me.
What emulators do you use white_door? I have tried dosbox to run my old tales of sophy 1 and the tales of torsin 1 and 2. I was only able to run torsin 2, i think, and it was runned slooow. _________________

You can use the sleep() command. Note that the parameter you pass to it is in milliseconds, not seconds, if you didn't know that already.
For the wavy thing... you can try double buffering. Here's what I mean
Code: |
Cls
Screen 18, 32, 2, 1 ' 640x480x32, 2 vid pages, fullscreen
for x = 1 to 620
cls ' clear the screen
circle (x, 240), 20, RGB(255, 255, 255) ' draw a white circle
flip ' this copies the contents of the video page to the screen
sleep 33 '30 frames per second
next x
sleep

Hm...
I doublebuffer and I know about that sleep are milliseconds.
Well, the code beneath is the tileengine.
SUB TileEngine (x1%, x2%, y1%, y2%) static
IF x1% = tilesize% - 1 THEN StepX% = -1 ELSE StepX% = 1
IF y1% = tilesize% - 1 THEN StepY% = -1 ELSE StepY% = 1
FOR scrollx% = x1% TO x2% STEP StepX%
FOR scrolly% = y1% TO y2% STEP StepY%
a% = -1: B% = -1
FOR y% = screeny% - 1 TO screeny% + MaxYTiles%
FOR x% = screenx% + 1 TO screenx% + MaxXTiles%
screenmap%(a%, B%) = tilemap%(x%, y%)
put ((a%*tilesize%+scrollx%), (b%*tilesize%+scrolly%)),TileSet%(screenmap%(a%, B%) * tileoffset%),pset
a% = a% + 1
IF a% = XTiles% + 1 THEN a% = -1
NEXT x%
B% = B% + 1
IF B% = YTiles% + 1 THEN B% = -1
NEXT y%
call showplayer
WAIT &H3DA, 8
ScreenCopy 1,0
NEXT scrolly%
NEXT scrollx%
END SUB _________________

That certainly is quite a crappy tile engine.
