I thought it'd be nice to implement development journals for each user, kinda like what GDNet has except RPGDX won't require premium membership. :)
People could post frequent updates on their progress in whatever they are developing, or possibly use it as a RPGDX community blog, and other users could post comments and replies to each journal post. This could help motivation in developers since they'd be gaining feedback; also, this could help build a tighter community since there would be more interaction between people.
Feedback on my idea? _________________ Current Project: Destrike

Oh. The "user page" link only appears while at the website, not on the forums. No wonder why I missed it! :) Thanks, Rune. _________________ Current Project: Destrike

Yeah, admittedly there isn't much attention drawn to it, but it's still there. Glad to've helped. :) _________________ Endless Saga

So much things to fix or improve about this website, heh.
Actually I've said I would implement developer logs on a few occasions but I never get around to it, and I'd be amazed if you'd find it on your user page. RPGDX allows you to put up a page about your game, add a link to an article, review a game and post news.
On the top of the list of things to improve about RPGDX would be news comments and developer log... but somebody needs to have time for it, heh. I had hoped Mandrake would have improved something in his recent activity, but it seems he went on with bigger dreams about a site for a wider audience and I'm not sure where he is now.
Note that the source of this website is available from a Subversion repository and that I consider it GPL, interested web developers can contact me about it.

*looks at the user page* ........ heh nope, no dev journal feature yet. ;)
I certainly vote for this feature to be added sometime in the near future.
I'd offer to work on it, but alas, I'm not as proficient with mySQL as I am with PHP. such a feature would require some tricky mySQL code for management of the journal data, and some very solid session management integration ~ phpsessions are not something I'm too familiar with at this point though.
But in any event, Bjorn, if you need any help, PM me.
My PHP programming skills are quite fluent. :D _________________ Principal Software Architect

Oh, it appears that dev journals don't actually exist. I thought the add-a-game link meant that I could also post journal entries related to the game, but I guess not.
This feature would be really nice, though. :) _________________ Current Project: Destrike

Well, you could always post progress info in the game description field - I've seen people do just that with their game pages. But I agree that a formal feature would be good.
I'd also like to see a feature that lets you post a Gamasutra-style postmortem in the form of five "What went right" and five "What went wrong" questions, in order to encourage people to post postmortem stuff. (Obviously, you would also include a generic place to post postmortem stuff, but I think the five questions hueristic would encourage people to post.) _________________ Visit the Sacraments web site to play the game and read articles about its development.

It sounds like a good idea, I'd use it. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows. - wallace

I don't see whats wrong with using the forum for dev logging and the articles thingy for post mortems. I just don't see many people making logs right now to warrant adding the functionality.
Hopefully more people will start writing logs beacuse i do find them a good read. I'm doing my (poor) part. _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

Perhaps because the forum is meant for general discussion and not as a log system? Just a theory... _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows. - wallace

Maybe it could be broadened a bit to User Journals rather than Dev Journals. It could then be used for many things, including a personal blog and development log. The difference between an RPGDX journal and a BlogSpot, Xanga, LiveJournal, etc. would be the surrounding community.
If I started a generic blog on RandomBlogHost3, it'd be hopeful at best to wait for another RandomBlogHost3 user, that is also a programmer, to offer feedback or other things related to programming. Since the journals would be on RPGDX, it would drastically increase the chance of receiving helpful feedback on programming topics.
The reason why starting a thread as a devlog would be bad is because:
- It might be seen as spam posts by a moderator.
- The journaler might want specific comments per reply, which wouldn't be possible. Starting a whole new thread for what could have been a journal post is just spammy.
- The devlog forum would be unorganized. Whereas some people might use one thread for everything, others might use a thread per would-be-journal-entry. Whereas you'd have to search the forum for user-who-started-thread, you could instead just view their profile for past journal entries.
There are some other reasons but as I wrote down some, the others escaped my brain. Bah. _________________ Current Project: Destrike

I dunno... a dev log sounds great, but a personal journal of which boy has a crush on you doesn't seem like something that'd fit in with a developement site. ;)
The dev journals get my vote, though. :) _________________ Endless Saga
