Any ideas?

I just feel I should mention that I am working on my entry for the last challenge still. I've got a (tiny) tileset and most of the concept down... I'm still at odds over how far I should take it. I've got this fantastic MegamanX-meets-SOM idea going in my head, but I know it's too complex. I won't be able to finish until I "localize" the idea, but I'm still working on it so I've not given up. I'll think of something in a day or so.

I think the first should be finished before you start the second. And i just realised that technically i'm working on a battle engine, so i'll put that up when i finish.

I don't even know if the last challenge happen'd. But since LG is still working on his, perhaps holding off is in order. I'm currently working on a webpage that works like a "table in cyberspace" as it were for two people to have a game of Magic: the gathering. I don't know if you'd call that a battle engine, but it's close enough for me :P.

Well, RuneLancer's entry seemed pretty on target for a battle engine. At the very least he met the challenge. :)

...Beyond a battle engine... what else challenges are there? Maybe a menu challenge in the future; there certainly aren't enough menu routines around. A musical challenge almost seems unnecessary, since these days we do sound pretty well with libraries. There do seem to be some possibilities out there, though.

Well then I guess this challenge is still going. Maybe we should just keep it going until we're all ready to move on to the next one, huh?

Nah, we should totally do a music challenge! Everyone make a piece of music with a common theme (like the description of an area the character is travelling through) and maybe some old school restrictions, like 6 tracks of which 2 have to be drums, like the snes. It'd be great, everyone could whip up a piece in a couple of hours using tools easily available on the net. Lots of them would suck, but its just for fun so why not?

Well, I've got a piece I could present tomorrow or the next day. I guess that could be a part of the challenge. Well there seem two in favor, so why not? I guess Ren is the leader of this challenge. :)

So Ren, what are the rules?

Well, if I were going to make some rules apart from the ones I already listed i'd tell you that it has to be an original piece, so no submitting your old leftovers! Then i'd set a couple of days we should do it in. So, anyone else think this is a good idea so far? Don't worry if you're no composer, i'm pretty terrible myself, heh.

I'm up to take a shot and make a crappy song. Make sure you post a link to some softwares and perhaps a tutorial or risk me submitting a human beat box mp3.

How about finishing one that's only half-done? :\ Inspiration comes sparingly....

I'll give it a go.
Tell me the time limit, and the theme direction.
And the deadline.
Time is limited enough for me but I think I could put something together in about an hour or two after work.
Let me know if this contest gets the green light.

Well this one certainly doesn't seem to be a challenge, does it?

Anyway, I came up with three songs this morning, and forgot them just as quickly. (the classic little 10-15 second stuff, like in DQ) Personally, my biggest problem is samples. I mean, if I use tracking software then I'm gonna spend as much time declipping the samples (for each pitch, no less!) as I am writing the song... is there a better solution?

LG: the challenge is to form them into a listenable medium. Song's you made up in your head don't qualify for the contest, for obvious reasons :).

Cool, that's enough people, i'll stick up a post in the Music forum with the 'official' (i.e. ones I just made up) rules.

EDIT: slightly edited because I offended LG accidently.

EDIT2: Ok, how does this sound?
