Yeah, that's not bad at all, especially considering you whipped it up so quickly :D Anyway, what he said :)

The thing on his back is just a quiver of arrows. I couldn't figure out how to distinguish between the arrows except by giving them all different coloured feathers.

Well, if you are an understandable team and are willing to have me, then I'd be happy to join. :)

Cool! :D I talked with Roots and we both agreed we'd love to have you aboard.

So... the usual process is we ask people who are interested to fill out a brief application. Then we show the app to the rest of the team and make a decision. In your case, we're pretty sure that no one on the team will object to your joining, but we'd still like to allow the rest of the team to give their input. So, if you wouldn't mind, could you please fill out the information below and send it to roos@allacrost.org?

- A little infomation about yourself and who you are
- Background knowledge and experience
- Your availability (even if only a few hours a week, we will still consider you)
- Demonstration/proof of your skills (links to past projects, sample art you've done, etc.)
- Why you want to work for the Allacrost project

Anyway, thanks for your interest, we're really excited that you might be able to help us out. From the "Dude" you posted before, we think you could adapt to our style without a problem, and as far as time goes, it's not a problem at all.

Hey, Kuro/Roots/whoever I should mention it to--
Turns out I won't be working full time after all (bit of a story), so I will have MUCH more time on my hands... I am still very hesitant to apply for two reaons, one being that I'm afraid I might not be able to offer much time even though I'm not as busy, and the second being that I always have difficulty working on other's projects/visions. However, this could be some much needed practice for that, and just my pixel art in general.

If (if!) I do end up being certain about this... I'd probably like to limit my work to tilesets. It's the area I specialize in (though I have no trouble spriting, either) and am most comfortable doing it. I usually prefer to work with 16*16 pixel tiles, though I can do 32*32 as well if needed...

How I'd prefer to work is pretty much receiving a list of some or all of the tilesets, some detailed descriptions, (and of course I'd have to work with the rest of the team for critique, etc) and just crawling back to my cave to hide away and work on them for awhile. :p

Anyhow... I will fill out the questions you mentioned to Gooseman, and send them along-- Just keep in mind I'm not 100% certain yet. By the way, is it roos@allacrost.org, or roots@allacrost.org? Just wondering if that was a typo or not.

Hey Josiah :) I was really surprised when I saw an application from you sitting in my inbox! Anyway, I'm really glad that you decided to apply after all, even if you aren't 100% certain. If you have any questions or anything, please let me know. If nothing else, we could give it a whirl for a while and see how it goes.

And, good question- my e-mail address is roos@allacrost.org, not a typo, lol ;) Sorry for the confusion. Anyway I'll show your app to the team and e-mail you back soon, probably by the end of tomorrow.

Thanks!

>>> UPDATE <<<

Firstly, thanks again to everyone for your support/interest in the project. At first I was scared no one would even respond, so it's really great to see such a friendly crowd around here :D Anyway, we're extremely happy to say that both Gooseman and Josiah have agreed to help us out, most likely both in the area of tile art, and we're really looking forward to having them around.

We're still very much in need of help with art though, so please drop me a line (roos@allacrost.org) if you can spare some time. We could still use more help in any of the areas that I listed in the initial post. (Tiles, map sprites, battle sprites, etc.)

Thanks again!

>>> UPDATE <<<

Just wanted to make another quick update. :)

We're still looking for a couple of artists. Also, one area of art that I neglected to mention in my first post is battle backgrounds. Basically we need someone to make 1024x768 (fullscreen) backgrounds for battles. Since it's clearly not practical to do a 1024x768 image one pixel at a time, the process for creating these backgrounds will involve hand drawing, scanning, and touching up in Photoshop or a similar program.

Anyway, while I'm at it, I want to post some of the art our team has made in the last few days :)

Here is some progress Josiah Tobin has made on a desert cave tileset. Also below that is a picture of a creepy worm-like critter that lives in the cave:

Here is a sprite that Jon (Gooseman) made of a soldier:

Also here are a couple of portraits made by artist Safir-Kreuz... The first one is of the main character, Claudius. The one below that is his sister, Laila:

Man Josiah's getting good. The worm animation is really smooth.

That second portrait there is masterous too. My compliments to the artist.

The guy portrait looks like me! :D

It's purely coincidential though :p

Oh yeah, we released a development wiki covering all kinds of previosuly insider-only information about our game, like how to design compatible artwork, code documentation, team goals, what work currently needs to be done, etc. Check it out if you want an insider perspective into a (relatively) successful indie RPG:

You guys look like you're pretty organized. That will go a long way towards your eventual success, I suspect. Good job.

And that's an interesting read even for people not intending to join your team - thanks for making it public. I liked seeing the considerations you have for the art standards and such.

Hey!! I saw your Sacraments webpage before, it's very cool :) I like your "The making of" articles, those should be required reading for anyone making an RPG.

Anyway thanks for stopping by and for the kind comments.

Hey guys, we could really use some more artists to help us out. We've come a long way, but have an even longer way to go. We're also very close to having a playable demo released now, so you could get your name in those credits if you act soon enough. Below is a pretty broad sample of the artwork that we currently have and use.

Map artwork

Tilesets

Sprite Sheets

Face Portraits

Inventory Icons

Full Portrait

Battle artwork

Original sprite designs

More sprites

Character portaits

Scene Artwork

Still Portrait Scenes

Location Graphics

Screenshots

The game's main menu

Map exploration

Map dialogue

Battle interface

Character management

Head on over to our website at http://www.allacrost.org/ for more information about the game.

Right now, the major artwork tasks that we need the most help on include:

- More animations for our character battle sprites (we only have an "idle" animation)
- A tileset for the desert town of Harrvah (we have a great start, but need a lot more work)
- Various map sprites to populate the town

If you're interested in helping us out, even if only a little bit, please fill out this appliction form and tell us a little bit about yourself. We have only a handful of artists right now so we would really appreciate anyone who is willing to help out in their spare time. If you have any questions, please post them in this thread. Thanks!

If you are gonna making a linux version, you can make an entry in www.happypenguin.org and ask there for support. Your game doesn't have to be necessarily under GPL.
