Hey - I've got a net question that I was hoping somebody here could help me with.

When I finish college in a few weeks, they'll be closing my college account, which will mean that I'll need to set up a new email adress somewhere.

I wanted to set up an email adress from my domain name, distractionware.com, but it's just a very basic package (all it does is forward to my college webspace). Where do I start? Do I need to get hosting, or is there a simple way to setup forwaring to a free email account?

Thanks in advance - I don't really have a clue about this stuff, and google searches haven't been all that helpful... (I was given a price of 120 euro at one site...)

You need to redirect your DNS entry to another e-mail server. Most web hosting packages comes with e-mail server software, or you can run your own from home. Just remember that your server has to have an always-on connection.

As soon as you have a forwarding service you could use Google own free email offering to compensate for the missing mailserver. You'll get free POP3 access, an awesome webmail interface, and also importantly, the ability to send emails that appear to be coming from the email that's being forwarded to your Google mail account.

You need to be invited though, but many people here should already have a Gmail account so getting an invite is not a problem. If you want one you can also just email me about it, all I need is your current email address.

Gmail lets you do that? That's pretty cool...

Anyway, I got the problem sorted on my own eventually by buying hosting with a local hosting company. Thanks anyway!
