I read the RPG Vault interview and this project is starting to grab my interest. I'm very much into oldschool rpg's :)

Have you thought about interpolating your lighting? It'd look a lot better, and I can't imagine that it would be terribly slower.

janus: Yes, we've tried a few techniques for smoothing out the lighting but the methods we've implemented so far have taken a greater hit on performance than we wanted or didn't look as well as we hoped. We are still looking into some other techniques, but since we are in crunch mode to finish the project up, we may hold off on an improved lighting model until Book II.

Speaking of finishing up, we have a poll running on the forums regarding eating and drinking in RPGs. It'd be great to get input from hardcore RPGers (i.e. RPGDX regulars) on whether or not to implement this into E:B1.

I would say food and drinking for hp and mp restoring only. Nobody like's their cool hero to starve to death.

Sorry I haven't stopped by for a while...I've been busy making a game! I've updated the screenshot and release info at the top of this thread, as well as a couple of links that had changed on out site.

I knew there were a couple of people here who asked about Linux support for the game and I just wanted to say we are one step closer achieving that. We have a new Ubuntu laptop just for development purposes and had Eschalon running just dandy on it after a couple hours of tweaking.

There's lots more still to do, and the Windows and Mac versions will have to come first, but I think a Linux version is very likely now. BTW, Ubuntu is extremely enjoyable to work with. It's a great step forward for Linux.

Hello again! For those of you who have been wanting to see Eschalon: Book I in action, the trailer is out!

You need DivX to view it, and you can download it from GameBanshee. The direct link is:

Thanks for reminding me... I have a DIVX installed on my home machine (and actual bandwidth to play with) at home (I previously kept seeing this announced at work), and was able to watch it.

This game looks uber-hot.
