Seeing that there hasn't been much discussion around here lately, I'm going to start by announcing a little project of mine.
Most people from rpg-dev.net probably knew that I was working on an action RPG, but had no idea what I was working on. I told them it would involve 3D graphics blended with 2D sprites. I have not announced this project in the past because I did not want to disappoint people with a never completing game. The case still holds -- as I still continue to be occupied with work and life, I honestly do not know when, or even if, this project will be completed. However, I am going to give my little project a little exposure.
Project:
Anyways, the project is "Heaven Hell Parody Saga", which the name is derived from a series of ideas which led to the creation of a story and even an online manga.
Game play:
This game is an action RPG similar to the Secret of Mana series. It offers nothing special in terms of game play. It is straight up hack-and-slash, jump, magic, defend, and use item. Use of mana will be focused heavily for game play. You will have a list of spells that you can use, and you would be able to select them like how you would select weapons in MGS (i.e. hold magic button to bring up a list of spells to select, tap magic button to use it). There will be offensive spells for attack, passive spells which you have to activate to block fire attacks for 3 seconds and performance spells which you can activate to improve attack speed, etc..
Story (from the website):
The "World of HHPSaga", an undefinable region driven by an unknown spiritual force, encompasses five continents and all its life within. This ever expanding virtual space has no boundaries. Strict rules govern the lives of all the people contained within. The forces that drive the flow of events or reasons of why things happen are a mystery. Every person to be met has their own story and how it connects to the world is waiting to be solved.
This story follows our hero, Wind, who sets sail on a journey to bring his young friend, Neyo, to a magic school in Astoria. On their way to their destination they find themselves caught in a middle of a navel war diverting them off course to a set of islands towards the south. Now Wind will need to travel by foot to Astoria through the southern continents in which during he will encounter many strange people, solve bizarre mysteries, engage in girl relationship problems and face off with other heroes as he meddles with the affairs of the people in the world of HHPSaga.

It looks pretty good even though I'm not really interested in action RPGs any more (too much clicking and/or key pressing).

Why need there be discussion? We usually just end up at each other's throats anyway....
Besides, overall the membership of this site is producing far better work than ever before, if less frequently.
Everyone knows what the issues are and moreover, where the other guy stands. It's quite impossible to change another person's opinion if you naturally disagree with them, because every attempt to change their mind will appear as a personal attack of some kind directed at them.
We're getting the lowdown on fascinating projects by a lot of people that are really going to be fun to play once they are finished, so why marr that trend with venomous debate?

Venomous debate? Sorry.. I don't quite follow your post.
The purpose of me posting is to let you guys know what I'm doing. Some people may like it, some probably won't. I can distinguish the difference between personal opinion and personal attack, and so far, I've only seen personal opinions.
But thanks for the comments. Hopefully, I can pull out a demo sometime next year!

Same! Hurry! I wish to play this game! It looks like it could be really good. Most action-RPGs are crap, but every once in a while one comes along that is just a huge surprise (in a good way!). This could be that one. _________________ "Sometimes it is better to light a flamethrower than to curse the darkness."

Sorry if I disappoint you guys.. but as mentioned, it may be a long while before any demo is released. At my pace and doing both the programming and graphics, consumes a lot of time. Plus, I also work and do other stuff.

Haha, but I just mentioned that it offers nothing special in terms of game play!!
I'll be concentrating on entertainment factor for the game. So despite its fairly standard game play, hopefully, it will be equally entertaining in both the story and fun aspect of the game.

Yeah the graphics are a problem. Unfortunately no one has yet made a product that combines ease of use with power in terms of 3D rendering. With such a product, we could make models of our sprites and then capture snapshots of the models in various positions, to get our artwork done.
