Anyone interested in having a good ol competition here again?

I for one could actually participate this time around. ;)

I've recently acquired some free time (read: quit shitty 8-6 job) and really want to get back into the rpg scene again.

I was thinking, since in the past, we tried 24/48 hour compos that ended up rather sparse, how about we have a finish-time by the start of Summer? So, like from here til Summer we can do as much or as little as possible to complete a small rpg game.

If anyone has any input on this...please let me know.
Five people say "yay" to the idea, and I'll consider it on.

I'm interested, but I would prefer a shorter contest, as in one weekend or a week.

I would also prefer a shorter contest. I can afford to take a week off my other projects. I can't afford to take off the whole summer.

No, not the whole summer....what I proposed was to work on a game from now until summer starts in whatever freetime is available to us.

I'm thinking about putting together a website for the competition as well, depending on if enough people get involved, I may even get a dot-com for a year (and if someone wants to renew it, they can put up some cash for it). I really wanted this to be a large effort, not just tossed together quickly, I'm hoping for at least 10 to 20 people to contribute, but I'm starting when five are interested.

As for site content, I was thinking of having a page for each entry, (submitted by the author of the entry) and a flash banner thing with screenshots of everyone's entry, and some cool transitions.
A neat little hall-of-fame page where we can see the results of the competition, and well, thats all I can think of right now.
Any input on the site idea would be great.
And if you have any ideas for the competition, let me know.
Looks like this thing is going to happen, since thers already four people interested so far.

I always like a contest but I cant say absolutely 'yay' just yet. Got too see if I can manage to get some spare time first.

I'll take part, if I can actually get stuff to work. But I'll probably need a longer contest, cuz I'm a NOOB. So the summer thing sounds good.

Looks like we're having this competition. There are 5 votes for yes, and 0 votes for no! :D

If anyone needs webspace for their entry, I'll be happy to provide a couple megs of space. PM me about this.

And, any questions, let me know.

Wow, you're going a bit nuts on the rules there.

I prefer the usual rpgdx compo rules:
Quote:
# You create all content of your game within the timespan of the contest, which is 2 days. One day extention isn't a given, but be prepared for it nonetheless. Content is: graphics, music, dialogue and environments.
# Note that the previous didn't include story, you can figure that out in advance. Preferably think up your own, but you're free to base it on something existing. It also doesn't include the engine, which can be prepared in advance too (and doesn't need to be your own). You are advised to make use of these opportunities, and have them ready when you start.
At least one of your rules will force me to drop out.

And why not use the rpgdx compo system anyway?

Care to elaborate on why you think I'm going nuts on the rules?
And, which would have you drop out?

I have emailed Bjorn, to get his input.

I second sticking to the previous rules.

Running on a 486 is ridiculous. I could do it, but not with my current engine, and I don't have a 486 lying around for testing.

And working for the rest of winter and all of spring isn't much better than working all summer. I can devote a weekend to a contest, but not several months, and I've found that having a tight deadline really helps to motivate me to get things done.

Sorry, the time period is sort of a show stopper for me. I'm out :(
