Hehe, yeah SDL is such a large dependency, let's use Windows instead! :-P

You can equally argue that SDL depends on Windows.

The Win32 API isn't a dependency, Bjørn. :P

Except that it doesn't. SDL programs can run under Linux, Mac OS X, or any number of other supported platforms.

You could, at best, say that the Windows implementation of SDL depends on Windows. However, porting an SDL program to Linux is usually as simple as recompiling it with a Linux compiler.

On the contrary, it's the worst kind of dependency - the one that isn't available on non-Windows platforms (Wine notwithstanding).

Actually that's what I meant since we were talking in the context of Windows.

It's not a dependency because it's built into the operating system itself. You don't expect to automatically have the X libs in Windows or MacOS 7.5.3, do you? Yet if you're running a Unix with an X server, you know the libs are there because they're "built in" to X.

I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but this tread has me wondering - what is it about these forums that makes discussions tend towards arguments about syntax? I mean, it really seems to be a particular feature of RPGDX...

Well ACTUALLY Echo, syntax is the study of the rules, or "patterned relations", that govern the way words combine to form phrases and phrases combine to form sentences. What you mean to say is Semantics (Greek semantikos, giving signs, significant, symptomatic, from sema, sign), which refers to the aspects of meaning that are expressed in a language, code, or other form of representation.

Because some people around here are wrong, and they are so completely ignorant of their wrongitude, that they need to be reprimanded.

Plus: Arguing is fun!

Oh. I always thought that you were all trying to change each other's minds or something.

I wasn't arguing, just clarifying a point. I guess the semantics were the issue really.

That cannot be fun? Either you do change the other fellow's mind, which means you can claim victory, or you come to the conclusion that the other fellow is a git, in which case you can still claim victory (although silently).
