PostPosted: Wed Apr 04, 2007 12:49 pm    Post subject: SDL [quote]

Because my programming seems to have been going nowhere recently, I decided to take Mandrake's (and others') advice and try out the SDL.

I currently have all the .zip, .tar, .(etcetera) files saved onto my thumb drive. But no matter where I look I can't find instructions for setting it up. Where do I unzip the folders to, how do I link it into my project, etc.?

Thanks.

what compiler / ide setup are you using?

if you are using Dev-C++ you can get a devpak from devpaks.org for SDL

I'm using Bloodshed Dev-C++ 4.9.9.2 (http://www.bloodshed.net/), which uses the MingW32 compiler. And something about GCC, which I have no idea what that is.

I got the .tar file for it, I just need to know where to unzip it to.

I found this, which looks pretty clear cut: http://www.netadelica.com/coding/sdl/install.html

If you don't want to use the command line, then you should look into the devpaks, like DevX suggested. Select "check for updates" in the tools menu in Dev-C++, and select SDL from the list. You should be up and running in a couple of minutes.

I'm using this on my system:

Download SDL Dev-Pak 1.2.8

and this SDL_mixer
Download SDL_mixer 1.2.6
