the tileset may not be used and it's watermarked for that purpose.

That doesn't look familiar to me (although the style is pretty common, so it's hard to tell).
Is there any particular reason you're suspicious? How long did he take to do these?

well i don't know someone told me it looks a bit like rpgmaker xp res or something like that. it was made in like 2-3 weeks, but this is just half of it.

Hmm... No, apart from a certain similarity in the style, I don't think that looks like the RPG Maker tileset. And 2 or 3 weeks seems reasonable. I think you're alright :)
