The maps are almost tile-for-tile identical to the original, although the graphics themselves have been completely redrawn due to technical limitations. The only tile graphic that remains the same as the original is the throne at the very end of the game. The enemy zones on the world map are identical to the original (right down to the few tiles near the last town where you can fight tougher enemies early...sorta like in the original Final Fantasy). All of the enemy sprites are the same as in the original, except retouched to match the limitations of the hardware. The characters likewise; retouching here and there to look the best they can given the limitations of the hardware. The one biggest change from the original is the addition of an extra area. There was a pretty good reason to add it...not only does it extend the gameplay a bit, but it also gives way to secrets that didn't exist in the original. :)
Of course, the new fullscreen cutscenes weren't in the original game, they're new for this version. Then there's various additions here and there, just little details such as an audition feature (you can preview soundtracks and samples). There's also unlockable features and content which can be accessed from the "Extras" menu option on the title screen.
A cool new feature that was just added yesterday is the ability to switch the map character. Sure, seeing Spear walk around throughout the whole game is fine, but if you want to change that, now you can. It's kinda cool walking around as Ryanna or Tiger. :)
Some of the non-story in-game text was changed for various reasons. The storyline itself is completely untouched.
All in all, it is very much still Mysterious Song, but subtle changes here and then do set it apart from the original version. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows. - wallace
