Hey folks,

I've been doing an indie RPG (cRPG) news roundup for a few months... usually every couple of weeks (once I have a bundle of news items, usually). Here's a link to the latest couple of 'em:

Indie RPG News Roundup, October 25th
Covering information on Aveyond 2: Ean's Quest, Scars of War, The Broken Hourglass, Cute Knight Deluxe, and Depths of Peril.

Indie RPG News Roundup, October 10th
Including information on Eschalon: Book 1, Aveyond 2: Ean's Quest, Heart Forth, Alicia, The Broken Hourglass, Age of Decadence, and Esenthel.

I can't say this is an ultra-popular site, but I do get about 750 - 800 visits per day. So if you've got stuff happening on your indie RPG project, please let me know (here, or on the forums at rampantgames.com, or via email at jayb --- at --- rampantgames.com ).

I have very vague criteria, but basically I want games that are near release (late-alpha stage), or being created by someone with an established track record of releasing games. This is because there are way too many projects that get abandoned in early-alpha, and I'm really only interested in games that will actually make it to release in a full-on 1.0 "it's complete... until we update it" version.

While it's not a hard-and-fast rule, I also would prefer games that run natively on a modern(ish) platform - Windows / Mac / Linux / XBox 360 / Whatever, rather than emulation (although if the emulator is packaged with the game in one install, that'd probably be cool). And original titles, as opposed to remakes or mods of existing games. I don't care if it's commercial or freeware.

But hey, bug me enough about why your game or mod is so dang cool, and I may bend the guidelines a bit... :)

Anyway, this could provide some publicity for your games, and provide me with something to actually talk about as often as I'd like. Oh, and if you get scuttlebutt about some other indie RPG project from a reliable source, I'd love to hear about it.

This is a great idea :)

And Heart Forth, Alicia looks brilliant, but I hadn't really pegged it as an RPG from the video... Now I'm even more interested!

I haven't actually had any experience with "platform RPGs" before... but it definitely looks cool.

When I say there are a ton of really cool indie RPGs in development, I'm not kidding. I keep hearing about new ones monthly. HFA is just one that came outta nowhere and looks really cool and intriguing.

My current favorite is Depths of Peril - the game seriously impacted my development schedule, and so I should be way more angry at Steven Peeler than I am for making such a fun game and releasing it when he did. But he let me affiliate the game at my site, which was way cool of him.

I hadn't heard of Esenthel until recently, either. I'd have greater doubts about this one, but it has been submitted to the IGF this year. So they seem to be serious about it. But I'd be surprised to see this one get released in under a year from now.

Latest & greatest roundup is up.

Indie RPG News Roundup, November 2nd

It looks like Eschalon: Book 1 may be out before the end of the month, which would be truly awesome!

Heart Forth, Alicia looks very cool. I like how smoothly the game transitions from dawn to day to dusk to night. I'm curious to see how much effect the time of day will have on the story/game elements/puzzles. Time of day was utilized, to a limited extent, in some of the Zelda games and I thought it added something worthwhile to the gameplay.

Hey, it's news... about indie RPGs. I'm doing my part to get the word out. My post about the indie RPG releases of the year got some great traffic over the weekend, so I hope the message is getting out.

Couple of news updates:

Indie RPG News for January 16th, 2008

Indie RPG News for December 26th, 2007

And in case you missed it, GameTunnel had their best indie RPG list of the year for 2007:

Indie RPG of the Year award for 2007

I was pretty excited to see my pic for RPG o' the year to win. But I was pretty disappointed to see Eschalon: Book 1 wasn't on the list.

And now... what game will win Indie RPG of the Year for 2008? (Hee hee...!)

Wow, why do people keep posting about The Griffon Legend recently? It was released in 2005 :) It's just weird - this is like the forth place I've seen it brought up in the last few weeks.
