Alright this might sound curious, but I really need input of a song, I trust you are all (or most of you at least) honest enough to answer this properly.
If I post a song here, mentioning all the credit and copyright, what are the chances someone uses it for something else?! It is in NO way a "open to all" song and CANNOT be use in anything else.
I'm not sure if I should post it here, but I really need to know if the song fits the mood we're aiming for.
Should I -
post the song here and pray no one will steal it
or select a few random people that answer this post saying "yea I don't mind listening and saying what it make me think of, and I wont steal"
or post it here temporarily?!
Alright, ideas? _________________ I'm just too lazy to make my own sig ;)

undersample it or put in some background noise that would make it unsuitable for a commercial application but still gives us a good idea of the song.
::EDIT::
Temporarily hosting it might work too. iono, your call. I'm not about to steal anyone's music. I have a few talented musicians I can call on if I ever need anything.

I think you're being unnecessarily paranoid.
Well, anyway, Ninkazu's suggestion of background noise is probably a good one. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

I highly doubt people would steal your music. But that is the risk of putting anything on the internet. If you are really paranoid about it, only distribute your song to people you trust.

You must see that the world and her mother can read this forum and get your song. And to my experience there are 100 fine people and one idiot in between.
I concur with RedSlash. Assume your work to be unprotected once it's posted on a forum.
Actually this is why I lately make my stuff open source right away. Noone can "steal" was is available to all already.
My former project "Simutrans" was closed source for long. It's a transport simulation game, and as a matter of fact has a lot of images of houses, since cities play an important part in the world of Simutrans. Some sillybuggers took some of those images for an online city-building game - granted, the people who were responsible for the game removed the images on request, but it just shows that people take stuff once it deems them useful and good enough.
The chinese say one should feel honored if one's stuff is taken ;)
So ok, at least I now know my buildings were good enough to be re-used in someone elses game :P

myea, I know I'm a bit paranoiac on people stealing stuff, I got some of my stuff stolen before, wasn't cool (then again I was careless then) To be honest I really doubt people here will steal anything, as it's a indy community, but I do think the background noise is a good idea.
thanks for the input _________________ I'm just too lazy to make my own sig ;)

Even open source has its own problems, such as people violating the open source licenses (eg. steal GPL'd code and don't contribute back).

There's a fine line between "taken" and "stolen."

That's because the GPL is a joke and can't protect a damn thing. All it can do is hurt your "internet reputation" if you violate it, and if your target audience isn't a bunch of hacker nerds who cling to the GPL like a Bible, then no one will care if you stole someone else's GPLed code. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices.
