Could you then please explain to me how the issues I listed are consistent with your claim that C is highly portable?

First of all, I never said it was highly portable, I said it was universal. Secondly, anyone who actually knows me knows that I believe that it's not C that's portable but it's the C programmer that's portable, being able to code the same way on virtually any platform. Besides, a good programmer knows his platforms and knows how to adapt to the various differences, and that applies no matter what language or compiler you use. And furthermore, in the case of type differences...well, that's what we have typedefs for. Finally, many of the issues you brought up only manifest in the case of a lazy coder, of which I am not.

Terry: I swear that picture reminds me of a cat that I had about 11 years ago.
