I'm pretty much just an artist too, but I can do some basic coding too (basic stuff, not just BASIC, I shoud say). But I'm probably better at the art side of things anyway. I might do a bit of script-making too, so I can fine-tune special effects and things like that. I've got a pretty good idea what I want sprites to do, etc. The programmer on the team has got a fair bit of experience, but doesn't have a very good net connection, which is a bit annoying sometimes. We tend to collaborate on ideas a lot, which is the main reason we've kept working on things all this time.

Anyway, I talked to white_door, and he says he's willing to donate his game engine to the project. He's still doing a bit of clean-up work on the code though, so I'm waiting anxiously. Should be good :)

Not to sound like some kind of code-whore, but Quickbeam, I could probably do up some kind of engine for you. Like I said, no promises, but I'd love to have an RPG engine and a game to go with it :) I've got nothing against perfections. And, hey, anything's better than a game done in Visual Basic :)

Get in contact somehow, maybe we can work something out.

yeah, and in the worst case here's YAC (Yet Another Coder) but if things would ever come to that do note my splendid release record of zero games (in the textmode-pong to quake3 range).

While of course I have an amazing track record, heh...

Note to people: I *have* learnt to code since most of that was released :)

Golrien: thanks for the offer! I added you to my aim, but it seems you're not online at the moment. If you want to add me, its quickbeamio. The only other IM program i've got is msn, and thats g_terrill@hotmail.com (i also use that addy for my actual email). Anyway, yeah, it'd be great to toss some ideas around. One of these days I should suck it up and write a design doc, heh....most of my ideas are floating around in my head or in a binder full of half-scribbled paper.

Anyway, as for the two projects I've got, I really have no preference over which one happens first. I'd point you to my website which tells a bunch about each, but alas, I have no webspace, and my site is just on my HD right now. So I'll give you the quick gists, maybe one of them will suit your fancy.

Net2:
This is a cyberpunk RPG/strategy mix. Basically the story goes like this: about 75 years from now, a new airborne virus is discovered that spreads across the world, wiping people out at an unprecedented rate. The world pretty much collapses into chaos for a while as people are all panicky and trying to find a way to fight the virus. Soon, the UN countries that still had functioning governments pooled their resources and formed the UEC, United Earth Council, which is essentially one government for the whole world.

It's later discovered that the virus enters something of a dormant state under extremely cold temperatures. The UEC starts a massive building project, constructing huge sealed cities (think midgar from FF7 with a bigass glass bubble covering it, heh...well, kind of) in Antarctica and the far north. Thanks to super convenient futuristic technology and worldwide cooperation, these cities are completely self-sufficient.

Now what's Net2, you ask? Well, its developed for the governments of the individual cities to communicate with each other and allow them to share huge amounts of data quickly. I've got about 2 pages of jot notes on how it all works, but reading it makes my head spin and I doubt anyone cares anyway, heh.

Anyway, the story centers around Vincent, a semi-corrupt UEC hacker (his job is basically to stop the general populace from misusing the power of Net2). The story takes place after the first inter-city flight, which brings another main character, Zoe, from another UEC city that is under seige in the midst of a bloody civil war. Anyway, basically the story has your typical cyberpunky fanfare, with corruption, backstabbing, and plenty of plot twists.

As far as gameplay goes, I'm thinking a turn-based gunfighting battle system (for the real world). I've got the logistics of that one all planned out. And of course the obligatory hacking battle system, which I have SEMI-planned.

Matria's Betrayal:
This one has your typical medieval setting. See, the game world, Sentaria, is basically this tiny tiny planet inside a bubble of air inside a gigantic ocean of liquid space called the Aquamalum created by Matria, the mother of life. Matria lived in the world which the Aquamalum was a part of, but her children, the Kin, turned against her and threw her in. So now, Matria lives in the center of Sentaria, and created this tiny planet full of life to carry her back to the surface. Well, thats the dumbed down version anyway.

So yeah, it takes place on Sentaria. The people of this planet have their own problems though. See, the cycle of life has been interrupted, because man has discovered how to use the power of souls, taken from their place in the Barrier (which seperates Sentaria from the liquid space surrounding it). Religious orders are outraged at the sacrilige, and there's massive amounts of turmoil going on here. This one has more of a religion-based storyline, like Xenogears (though I shouldn't be allowed to compare my story to its, because...you know, wow).

Gameplay, I don't really know. I'd originally planned this as a traditional RPG. Only with no main character, kind of like FF6. But as I got into a Bushido Blade addiction, I got thinking...the basis of bushido blade takes place on a 2D plane, and could be done in a 2D game. So lately I've been thinking that it might be interesting to have a one-hit-kill style battle system like it. And then I got thinking about how I hate battle systems where you don't control everyone at once (cough SO2) so I thought a one main character might be better. Really, I don't know, and am open to suggestions, though I think I'd like something a bit more interesting than the standard random battle 3-member party blahness.

FIN

That was much longer than I intended it to be. Anyway, any suggestions are welcome. And if anyone's interested on working on either of these with me, please dont hesitate to get in touch with me. Remember:

this is very cool :) i don't know, but it's great to see people actually get together and work on games and stuff, very exiting, esp since everyone involved is very damn good at what they do.

Being moslty alone on my project I kinda have to do both programming and art.....but that is not a real big problem (the game is quite big in itself though) as I am an above par IMHO artitst and a fairly decent programmer in the language that I'm doing my game in (I'm getting better thought I hope)
