Here's my entry for the 48h lofi thing. My good friend The Fop contributed the artwork, and I whipped up an engine. Basically, it's Bard's Tale-style pretend-3d engine (90 degree turns only...), and it's at a rudimentary walkabout demo stage.

This was rather fun. I haven't put together a simple engine from scratch in a day before.

To tired to build distributions of it tonight, and there's not much to do at this stage anyway, except walk off the edge of the map and get lost in the infinite nothingness.

Thanks to some great help from DevX, I've managed to get the thing to run as a stand-alone program.

Here's the Mac version.

I've got a bit of legwork to do to make version for other platforms.

There isn't really any actual gameplay, but if you want to download and give it a whirl, feel free.

Ask and you shall receive! ^-^

Scrim: I successfully ported to C++ and SDL like I said.

Here is the runtime:

Download LoFi Wanderings In C++ Windows .zip

I'm not releasing the source unless you want me to Scrim.

LOL, the little demo is taking on a life of its own. Nice job on the port DevX, and thanks for making a Windows version. I'm quite looking forward to seeing what you come up with for gameplay.

I'm cooking away on a game using this engine too, but I'm not working as quickly as DevX is =)

^-^ this has been a lot of fun!
Between the port to C++ and SDL and reverse-engineering your demo's design in order to be able to make sense of it and extend functionality, I've learned quite a bit.

As for gameplay, I'm not certain what I'm going to do yet; but I wanted to ask you a few things about your engine. Drop in to #nogdus on irc.afternet.org so we can talk.

I receive the following error when I try to run either Windows version:

"This application has failed to start because SDL_image.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

EDIT: Nevermind, I was able to download SDL_image.dll

Is version 2 supposed to look like the screenshots above?

nope. sorry I haven't built that one as a release yet.
I've been caught up in a lot of other projects, and haven't done a thing more with it yet.
But its still on my list of things to do :D
