well this is just lovely....

if I don't get $650 to my landlord by 5pm tomorrow..I'm going to lose my apartment.

I'm $250 short, and out of options.

so it looks like I'm just royally fucked.

$650?

And your parents are living with you too, right? I suppose that's the problem.

This is a rough patch, but things are turning around.

I think you need to put things in perspective: can you afford $650 next month? If at all possible, I think you need to move to a cheaper place. It may be degrading, but you're not the only one experiencing dreams deferred.

The landlord can't just throw you out. He has to go through the eviction process, which can take months. Within that time, you can just stay where you are and find a cheaper place to live.

No..parents live in LA. My apartment is in TX.
I am currently in LA trying to get work, since there are places within walking distance from my parent's place that I have been trying to get employed at..even temporary work I haven't been able to find. :P

Things are _not_ turning around Tony..I don't know where you got that idea from, but lately my life has been one continuous downward spiral. I swear if there weren't so many loose ends that I'd leave then I'd just fucking pull the damn trigger already!

I am locked in a 6month lease at my apartment, there is a $3000 fine clause in the damn lease contract if I bail early. So thats out.
There are NO cheaper places. $650 is a major steal.
And, I signed the 6 month lease because my landlord dropped the rent $220 a month (it WAS $870 a month) if I agreed to a 6 month lease....I had no real alternatives, so I signed it.

Nod:
Thanks for that, it eases my mind a little.

And an update:
By the grace of God my dad was able to pull the money together to cover the difference. But that puts him out for HIS place now. >_< we just cannot fucking win!

I swear its starting to piss me off that I can't even get a fucking job at starbucks part time to just help get some money for food!
I've got $10 left...and I'm going to try to hold on to this $10 cause right now its ALL I have.

*sigh*

...back to craigsmotherfuckingpainintheasslist...

The economy is improving. Not good, but improving. Things'll pick back up in... a year. But you should think about that... we're talking a year worth of bills.

Although man you just don't bring in enough money to afford $870 a month. That's $10,000 year rent, and comparable to what my mom pays ON HER HOUSE.

I look at it this way: if I can get by on cheap living, then so can you if you must. I understand about the lease, but what I'm arguing is that you should move as soon as it's up, especially if you don't want to burden your parents any more than you have to.

Well, if you take "improving" as "getting worse slower," then I think that's accurate. Unemployment is still rising, companies are still reporting horrible earnings, the GDP is still shrinking...

But it's not in as much of a free-fall as it was three months ago. Which kinda makes sense - I mean, it has a theoretical limit of zero, so that kinda nosedive was unsustainable.

I'm really worried we're gonna be right back where we were six months ago in 4-8 years, so be sure and save all you can during whatever temporary respite we might get in a couple of years.

A good book to read (I borrowed it from the library) is "Scratch Beginnings," if you haven't read it already. It's kinda helpful to see the guy's approach as he pretty much starts with nothing and works his way up. Not that I'd want any of us to have to go that far.

You're right, I don't make enough money to afford an $870/mo rent...thats why I signed the lease...because the landlord offered me a rate of $650/mo if I agreed to stay another 6 months.

I don't know what kind of cheap housing you have by you, but it does NOT get any cheaper than $650 here. Thats for a single bedroom apartment, 2nd floor, in an area with low crime.
I am NOT placing my computers and guitars in an apartment in the middle of the city so they can be stolen. fuck that.

And don't suggest that I sell my guitars or computers. Thats just not happening.

I cannot tell the future, for all I know I could end with a $50,000 contract job tomorrow (not likely, but always possible in my line of work) and then again, I could get shot and die.
There isn't any way to know what will come next, so all that I can do is continue trying to find a way to make money, and hope for the best.

Between this post and my constant online job searching, and on-foot searching, I'm bound to get _something_ ..

Eight, maybe. I think Obama's term will generally be a time of prosperity... actually I dunno: there will be a lot of regulations this time around. But I think it unlikely a Dem will succeed Obama in 2016, so maybe a few years afterward maybe? After all, we're not going to be out of the woods until 2012 at the latest. ...Still, no harm in saving, is there?

Just keep in mind that these problems are not just in the USA but worldwide. Just about every first-world country is having a rough time right now, even Japan, "the unshakable one". Meanwhile, in second- and third-world countries, their problems have more than doubled in presence and the decline continues. It's convenient to blame our former government for this mess, but it's not that simple. The real problem comes from a multitude of smaller issues, but is largely made up of the few at the top wanting a bigger slice of their already gigantic pie. Obama's leadership in the USA has slowed our decline, but most of the plans for revival were thrown together quickly and won't work so fast. There is not one single answer for this mountain of problems, just as there isn't one single cause. The only thing you can really do is swallow your pride and take whatever you can get, no matter how demeaning it may seem at the time. 'Survival of the fittest' isn't just a famous quote.

I liked that perspective. Very far reaching.

Looks very expensive to me, unless you rent this room with furniture and cleaning service.

But I guess different countries are different there ...

Edit: Cheapest option to live should be to join an apartment-sharing community. Does such exist in your place?

Nope, its my sister's furniture & my computer desks.
Cleaning? Nope..I wouldn't allow some stranger in my home to clean it...

I wouldn't trust anyone to be my roommate except two of my best friends, and one is in College and the other is in the Marines, so that idea is out.

Holy shit that's a lot of money to be paying monthly... You could try to do something similar to what i'm doing, if you have some land get your own resource based economy. I went broke so i started to grow some exotic palms and made a few $$$$.

First year they can be sold at 300$ and the second 1000$, sure it's not I.T or related to computers but hey, whatever gets the bills payed.
