This will be my topic for the "side-scrolling mini-rpg" compo. I'll post updates of my progress here.
Saturday, 10am
Waking up. I don't have anything prepared for this compo so it's time to make a plan of action.
- First, I need to find some ideas. I don't think I have ever played a side-scrolling rpg so I'm not even exactly sure what's supposed to be in them. :)
- Meanwhile, I'll create the VisualC++ project, gather the libs I need to use and happily cut'n'paste some code from previous 48 hours compos and call that an engine. I'm using OpenGL for my rendering and SDL for init and input.
See you later for another exciting update.

Time for an update even if I don't have anything to show yet ;)
So mostly I'm still in the middle of putting my engine together from bits and pieces which unfortunately is not done as quickly as one would think.
So far I've:
- the basic structure of the game code
- model / textures loading
- a tile-based map/level system with the in game editor
Still on my to do list:
- lighting / shader code
- normal mapping support (I really want that in my game this time)
- character animation (I'll reuse a simple vertex interpolation method)
- basic character movements in the level
- a particle system for some effects
I hope to be able to finish that later tonight so that tomorrow I can start working on the game itself

I'm hoping to add that to mine too, and sound as well, for once :P But I'm firmly waiting with all that until the actual game is playable :D _________________ www.mattiasgustavsson.com - My blog

So you think I should stop playing with the glow filter on my game? _________________ https://numbatlogic.com

Sorry, guys. I won't be able to finish a game. I have learned one thing though. Just reusing code isn't really any faster than starting from scratch, especially when that code comes from previous 48 hours compos and wasn't designed to be reused and doesn't do that much anyway.
I have to say I really like the idea of making a side-scrolling RPG so maybe I'll continue that idea as a more long term project.
