And here's the next game in the Laxius Force series:
Laxius Force 2: The Queen of Adretana
(And yeah, I have to keep looking up how to spell Adretana every time I mention the game).
After receiving a letter from her friend and former comrade-at-arms Sarah, Luciana - a half-goddess - leaves her peaceful island home to rejoin her old companions. The Order, the dreadful shadowy organization of their past, is back and in force in the town of Adretana. And Luciana, Random, Sarah, and their companions must enter the heart of Arvendel to confront the Order and avert total war.
Laxius Force II: The Queen of Adretana is the direct sequel to the popular indie RPG, Laxius Force: Heroes Never Die. It even includes an import utility to copy over your characters from the previous game into this one - but it's fully playable starting from scratch. At least I hope so, as I never finished the first game...
SCREENIES!
Yeah. It's an RPGMaker game. What tipped you off?
It includes over 20 playable characters (YE GAWDS!!!!!) and promises up to 80 hours of gameplay (Ummm.... again... ye gawds!!!!!) That's actually a little too scary-big for a guy like me with only casual-gamer time to devote to games these days, but what I have played has seemed pretty cool. YMMV. And I expect the 80 hours is only if you are really pursuing all of the subquests 'n stuff.
But it's a pretty impressive series. The games seem to keep getting better. Oh - and while I've not run into it in this game yet, other games in the series have had some content that was inappropriate for kids. Nothing seriously R-rated (that I saw), but they are not intended for very young audiences. _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz

Laxius Force was popular? You sure about that? (It got a pretty frosty reception on TIGS, which is why I ask.)

Based on some other reviews and traffic on his forums (unless that is faked), I'd say so. The TIGS crowd is a little bit of a specialized audience crowd - as are the RPG fans at RPG Codex.
But it has definitely got its fans.
I'd agree the games aren't nearly as polished as the Aveyond series. I take more issue with the scope of the first game - big areas without as much going on - but the later games (at least what I've played of them) seem to have tightened things up a bit. _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz

Okay, just checked out his forums. Over 1,500 registered users is not bad! Better than I would have expected. And yeah, you're right, TIGS users are occasionally a little, uh, "specialized" in their tastes. [1] [2] [3]

The Three Musketeers is now out.
You can downloaded it (Windows or Mac) HERE
The classic adventure novel by Alexandre Dumas has now been adapted to an RPG by indie developer Dingo Games. Now YOU get to play as young D'Artagnon, befriending Porthos, Athos, and Aramis and engaging in a number of adventures following the sequence of the novel (and countless movies) through 17th century France. _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz

The boringly-titled "Dawn's Light" is actually pretty dang cool - at least as far as I played. It's got a good sense of humor and some intriguing puzzle design. Unfortunately, none of that really shows in the screenshots, which are about as boring as its title.
Still, it's a gem in the rough, IMO. Worth a look.
Download Dawn's Light here.

I like the graphical style of this one. Very crisp and clear.

I'm like 90% sure that those are default RPG Maker graphics.

This one's been out a few weks:
Dark Souls 2
Yeah, they have a sequel. Two games started and finished while I've still been working on FK. I suck. This one does look to be a bit higher quality than the predecessor, so it's worth a look. _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz

And from the maker of the Laxius Force series:
Millennium: A New Hope
This is more story-heavy than other RPGs from Aldorlea Games - and it also seems to be higher quality across the board. I got a little bit of heat for criticizing the plot of this one, but that's more a subjective thing. Aldorlea Games is definitely proving PROLIFIC and seems to have its sites set on improving production quality across the board. Good for them. _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz

Two games made in RPG Maker isn't half as impressive as a single game made using your own engine that you built from scratch. I wouldn't worry about it. :P

I didn't make my own engine, either - but it's not a toolkit like RPG Maker. :) _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz

Legie is a quirky 3D Czech adventure / RPG.
The dialog is weird (probably as much due to translation as anything else). And I've never played an RPG before where the initial quests had you cleaning up vomit. There's no spellcasting and no elves, but a lot of alcohol. No - it's not "Kegger - the RPG" but a semi-historical title called "Legie" (Czech for "Legion").
Download Legie
