Wait a couple more years for the bubble to burst on the housing market. Then, it will be great to invest in housing. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows. - wallace

Didn't the housing bubble just recently (i.e. at the beginning of the current economic crisis) burst in a big way? Houses should still be fairly cheap (depending on location, YMMV).
But don't take my word for it. I'm in no way qualified to give financial advice.

Lots of foreclosures have made prices of houses plummet. My parents are looking for a new property to invest in since they've almost paid off their mortgage.

I was more or less referring to the fact that living in any one spot will not be a good idea in the very near future thanks to the fuck-up that is running the country. _________________ Principal Software Architect

You'll be surprised.
Get a place near a decent-sized city is all I'm going to say.

Hell no.
I prefer not to be subjected to the brainwashing/mind control devices that they have all over the fucking place. _________________ Principal Software Architect

What are you finding most fun about your job? The most challenging? Wondering what working on a game like that must be like.

Most fun would be the joy of finally having a job that I _WANT_ to have, and having a boss that is great instead of a typical asshole like every other job I've ever worked.
Most challenging is working with over 50,000 lines of undocumented really cryptic code. (But I am refactoring it and documenting it as I go through it, so that any future coders are not struggling..yay me lol)
I cannot divulge many details about the code itself, but I can say that working with something that fits within your expertise is worth its weight in gold.
There are some really nifty things going on through jQuery which is one of the things that I didn't know anything about going into this job that was a rocky start, but now its crystal clear to me.
I'm about to be implementing all new game mechanics systems that will bring new fun features to the overall game experience for the user.
I've learned a lot in working on this project about game design and structural design decisions. Unfortunately I cannot talk about them in detail as per my contract.
If I could summarize my experience in a single breath, it would be:
I do not think that I could find a more fun job.
Unlike most places that I've heard of in the industry where the programmers don't get to have any input in the design, I have had my design suggestions heard by the designers, and some of my ideas were accepted to be used. :D Man I love working for Rowdy Baron Games! _________________ Principal Software Architect

Dude, I'm seriously happy for you. There are a lot of frustrations that can come from making games to put bread on the table, but it can also be really rewarding. Working with good people on a good project really, really helps. _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz
