So I had an idea for a game about 6 hours ago.
I started writing it, and while drawing the title screen (after several hundred lines of code were written to implement the core logic) I decided to google the game name that I wanted to use, to see if it had been used.

It had.. and not only was it used, but the whole fucking game design matched my idea 100%.....that is not only creepy, but it fucking sucks!!!

I quit. I am not making games anymore.
I'll teach newbies who want to learn, but I am hanging up my game designer hat.

Sometimes a break is good. Once it helps to get over the old grief, and a time off also helps to open up for new ideas.

But, if your call is teacher, that's alright, too. It can be a very fulfilling profession. Don't fight it, and try to be something else just because it's more popular.

Trouble is, everyone wants something for nothing, and so even getting that tiny amount is nearly impossible.

So anyone have any ideas on how I can actually make money by helping people? I'm tired of all my knowledge going to waste.
I've spent 21 years of my life programming and learning more and more about anything and everything related to computers.
Yet for some reason I haven't been able to find my niche.
There HAS to be something or someone out there that can help.
*sighs*
Well in 2 days I won't have internet, and shortly after, there won't be a roof either. So, I'm pretty much s.o.l. unless by some miracle something or someone comes along and gets me out of this pit of despair.
I have no car, no job, no money, no one to rely on, nothing.
Its enough to make me want to just die, but my curiosity of the future keeps me from ending it all.
...I need help.

It gave you contacts, and the people should have kept you in good memory for being helpful. Even if this didn't make money, it can help in future.

In the long run, write a book. Well, that might have worked better 10 years ago, but may still work today.

Hold seminars, give courses. Maybe offer home/personal training - I could imagine that some older people who want to get into the internet/computer thing would pay a personal trainer.

It much depends what you want to teach. Game design, graphics design, concepts of interaction, programming, computer basics? There are different audiences, and you'll need to tailor your services to their needs.

Most money seems to be in the business sector. If you get hired by a company to teach their employees using some kind of product, that can make you 2000$ or more a day. But that requires good product knowledge.

I'm subsisting on college loans and the altruism of my ex. >_> But I do hope to make my own ends meet someday, when I finish my education.

Talented programmers tend also to be talented at finance. You might want to consider looking into that.

But you need loans from somewhere. Debt time, debt debt debt!

...Think of it as, a learning experience. You are learning there are things you can't do, expectations you can't meet, etc. We all have limitations. When you accept your limitations, THEN you can work on beating them by... well, working hard.

For the record, DevX, your Naderian Chaos "dodge, don't shoot" model is all the rage nowadays. Though, I don't think it has anything to do with your original design, just the prominence of cell phone keypads which only allow one key at a time.

Are you sure you shouldn't be in the cell phone market?

I've quit game development before too, but eventually started doing it again. I still haven't had anything like success. In fact, none of the games I've made are really that great. Still, so long as I just think of it as a hobby, it's ok.

I don't know how to resolve DeveloperX's problems, but he probably won't be able to read this post anyways.
