What we need is an indie version of RPG Maker XP. That really bridged the gap between a mere drag-and-drop interface and programming real code. You could still make games in the old fashioned RPG Maker way (plot tiles, set events, etc), but if you wanted to, you could go in and edit the game code yourself (though it was Ruby) to make it truly custom. It would take a single person, or a very tight-knit team, to pull this off. If it were to be a community project, you know damn well that everyone would throw in their own two useless cents about which scripting language was best, which graphics library to use, whether or not it should be cross-platform, what license to use, etc etc etc. It would be a constant bitch-fest and nothing would get accomplished. Though in the end, something like this would never come to fruition. Homebrew is ultimately a thankless art and, in this age of chaos, money talks and bullshit walks. _________________ If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. Sounds like a plug-in oriented interface is needed. I think that once someone started such a thing it would coast along on its own merits, the question is who is going to do it.
I don't want this thread to get off track, so I'll make another thread for the discussion of this matter.
