Not that most folks here do 3D, but maybe you'll find a tidbit or two of value here...
Making Epic 3D Dungeons, Part 1
Making Epic 3D Dungeons, Part 2 - Applying the Lessons
Part 1 is more of a general walk through the evolution of RPG "dungeons" in computer games (specifically first-person perspective games). Part 2 is the kinds of design lessons we've learned (often the hard way) about designing these classic environments in an exploration-based fantasy RPG.
And yeah, it's got some Frayed Knights references. How could it not? _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz

I read part 1--it was interesting, but abstract. Checking out part 2 now.
EDIT: Nicely done. I think a lot of those principles apply to dungeons of the non-3D variety as well. :)

Glad you guys liked it. Yeah - the comments after the first one was that it was a little too abstract. I was worried about it being inappropriate to game-players, and only of use to game developers. So for the second one, I said, "Screw it," and just did a brain dump - including bugging my level designers for suggestions. _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz
