Starting August the 9th, RPGDX are hosting a week long RPG creation challenge! The theme is Alternate History.
Feel free to start a thread to keep us up to date on how your game is going in the projects forum. When your game is finished, please post a link to your project thread in this topic.
Rules:
Take as much time as you like before the challenge starts to think about your game's story, share your ideas, and prepare your game engine.
There are no restrictions on what tools/game engines you use to create your game.
Collaborations are allowed, welcome and encouraged.
The deadline refers to whatever makes sense in your timezone. The new, extended deadline is Wednesday the 18th of August.
There will be no official voting round, but all completed games will be collected in this thread once the challenge is over. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

Awesome, I think I'll make exactly the kind of RPG all the cool kids hate these days, and I think I'll take advantage of the preperation time for a change too! :D
one question though: are we allowed to prepare art assets before the 9th?
pretty sure once I start planning my story the urge to make character models will be super strong so I wanna know if I can let loose on that stuff.
also I strongly approve of the 'no voting' this time, anyone who makes a game is a winner anyway :D
now, what combination of steam punk, magic, aliens, time travel and death metal vampires does my alternate history have? I must get to planning! _________________ My Site - My dA - Edward

I'd say go for it - no point being too strict about these things :D _________________ www.mattiasgustavsson.com - My blog

Sure, I don't have a problem with it anyway :) If you feel inspired, go for it! _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

I just signed up to enter! I'm don't really back myself to get a playable game done but I wanna give it a shot and thought registering my intentions might spur me on.
I've got a couple ideas I recon would work with the theme, which I recon is a is a pretty cool choice. Will post again once I settle on a direction.

Welcome to RPGDX! We hope you enjoy your stay here :)
Milestones for me -
End of July: Finish the main ARC engine
First week of August: Program a battle engine
I'll just wait for the beginning of the competition to come up with ideas for the game's story and setting. _________________ Mark Hall

What a cool theme for a contest!
I know this is more of a historic fallacy than a different history, but is an rpg about the world being flat and a vile dragon throwing people off of it relevant enough?
I am going to attempt a game, but I am in the middle of trying my own engine, so things probably won't go smoothly enough to finish.
Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. _________________ As seen on TV

Brilliant theme idea, this should be an interesting contest.
The idea of some kind of Philip k Dick messed up world would be my plan if I do enter. I'm really looking forward to seeing where this compo leads.
Good luck everyone!

I'm working on trying to finish up my engine so that I can focus on the game during the days of the contest.
I'm thinking about doing an alternate history I made for a comic I drew back in 9th grade. ^_^ If I do I'll post the comic with it. ^o^ _________________ Mao Mao Games

My wife was not happy when I mentioned the possibility of being in this one. Distraction from Frayed Knights and all that. So I really want to participate (and I'm thinking about using the Exult engine if I do), but it's iffy. _________________ Tales of the Rampant Coyote - Old-School Game Developer talks Indie Games, RPGs, and the Games Biz

I'm totally up for this!
I haven't solidified an idea yet, but I'm trying to mentally prepare something simple and manageable. Hoping to clear the whole week so that I can put some effort in.
