Thats awesome Nodtveidt! Congrats :)

About the bonusgame, MS Bomberman? Never thought I would see that, hehe.

Oh, I might have asked this before but who's the artist? Can I steal him/her?

There are several artists. lord_cack and Josiah Tobin did the game's tilework, Keranu did all the game sprites, and Black Tiger did the cutscenes and battle backgrounds. The Bomberman game's graphics were done by lord_cack and Keranu. I don't own any of them, hehe. :)

OK... we sent the first masters to the pressing house in March... they were no good. We've sent more and more, and each time, the masters were no good. We just sent out another set Saturday morning... hopefully this is the last time, as the release is a few months overdue now.

And... I'm positive someone will rip it and put it up on filesharing things the day it comes out. :)

For me, I had about two good weeks before the pirated version was shared all over the Internet. Not that I made it hard to crack or anything.

You are catering to the PC market, right? This is a different market altogether. We were actually going to release the game for free on the website as per the original, but everyone demanded a physical release to purchase, and the price didn't matter. :)

Judging from the video, it plays like the original, plus the added FMV stills.

The game has potential. It can be a contender, but it needs more love and care. I see one tree dotting the map. It should be a forest, a la FF or DQ. The battle system, if not the entire game, could be done in RPG Maker 2K. Add more complexity, like an ability system. Increase the size of the world map by a factor of eight... make the game an adventure. The water still doesn't move... animate it. The people stand around, making the game feel like it's still in beta. In fact, the whole game still feels beta. It shouldn't... it's short, so it should feel like a demo. A really satisfying demo that makes you want the full version. The battle system is really the whole game outside the stock map exploration mechanic, so that's it's biggest problem.

It's already gone to manufacturing, so nothing more can be added.

"It needs more love and care"... considering the fact that we spent seven years bringing this to completion (it's older than all of my kids)... you could be more insulting, I suppose.

It still remains mostly true to its original form; the regular game got one additional area added to it, and we added an EX Game which adds a multilevel superdungeon, an alternate final boss, and an alternate ending. It doesn't matter if it could be done in RPG Maker 2K... the PC Engine does not run RPG Maker 2K.

The idea was not to take the original game and make it an epic... the idea was to convert it but spruce it up a bit. The graphics were overhauled, the extra areas were added, the music was greatly enhanced (and a few new tracks were added too), the cutscenes were added, and we also added a gallery, a bestiary, an armory, and a bonus minigame. Also, not only can you play with the "original" game formula, but it also has an easier mode that plays faster and doesn't require as much level-grinding.

If I wanted to make an epic, I would not use this game as a basis for that. Furthermore, I did not want to superimpose my story ideas on top of DarkDread's original story, as it would change the overall feel of the game and there's a high chance that some of the story would be drowned out in other details. That's why my additions were made at a specific point; they don't superimpose onto the main storyline but branch off in their own direction.

I guess we have different tastes. I'm glad to hear the game is selling and I hope it sells well for you. It seems though that RC wants you to port it over (or something like it) and I just wanted to point out what I thought would appeal to a larger audience.

I may scrap my plans to port it over... I'm not sure just yet. I have it actually about 85% of the way coded, but it may not be release-worthy. I'd really rather just spend that time coding something much more epic, but that would take that much more time and time is starting to be at a premium again.

Anyway, manufacturing REALLY fucked up this time... they had sent us a check disc (at our expense, of course) and it ended up being of someone else's game. Needless to say, we were all quite pissed. So my wife got on the horn with the company, chewed out the dumb fuck in the Monkey Dept (aka customer service), and got to jaw with the actual techs (who laugh at the Monkey Dept). Turns out that the third masters were fine, and aside from a minor index issue (which the target hardware is likely to ignore and was probably caused by the burning software), the new stamper should already be produced, and they should be producing the new check disc by Wednesday... we will have it sometime in early August. If it checks out with all of our machines, we will give the OK for final production and have the physical product in our hands in mid to late August.

My wife REALLY lit the fire under their asses... we got the check disc already and it checks out fine. It needs to be tested on multiple machines before we commit to final manufacturing due to the noted index issue but it looks like we'll have the green light at long last.

Wow. What a saga this has been. And YAY to your wife!!!! :)

When this is all done, the copies have all been sold (except the one you hang on your wall), you will have a lot to be proud of. Well, you do already, but it'll be great when it's all finally *done*. At least as done as it gets.

Good luck!
